4WD 5.3 MPG !

No I actually drive like a grandpa. I do have several stops/starts, traffic lights, and just general sitting in traffic at spots.

But yes, I'm not very impressed with the mileage so far, but it is what it is. I think the rediculous transmission tuning plays a part. The truck is always lugging in too high of a gear, trying to pull hills in 5th or 6th gear at 1k or so rpm. It does not feel very healthy long term for the transmission or engine to be honest. If not for warranty, I'd get a BB tune. No way the trans should be in that high of a gear, on a back road going up a hill without downshifting on its own. Which it sometimes won't do unless i luft for a second, then it will, but reward me with a loud clunk.

I like this truck, but the big black eye to me that's keeping me from loving it is the terrible transmission. On the 14 Honda crv i had prior, that Trans was perfectly tuned. Always shifted great and alwaya was in the right gear.

I wonder if ford's 6 speed is any better?

No, fords is not much better. I am pretty sure that GM and Ford worked together on the 6 speed so that is why. I drive a Ford with the 5.0 and 6 speed everyday for work and it to hesitates and wants to stay in too high of a gear when it needs to shift down.

I don't think either of the 'joint venture' transmissions are in production yet.

Just drove 280 miles going from sea level to 6700 ft. With the last 60-80 miles on ice and snow in 4 wheel drive and idling in stop and Go traffic and I got 14.5!

I'm happy

'15 4x4 crew with 3.42s and 5.3, all stock. Last 1400mile trip (10K miles on it) averaged 18mpg. Thats from east TN to Chicago, many large grades and 70+mph on the highway (1100 miles). That includes spending a week in the Chicago area (mostly all fairly heavy traffic) for 300 miles.

Compared to my old 2013 4x4 Ram crew Laramie with 3.21 gears/8speed thats about 3mpg better for the same trip, we do the same every year.

The Ram would NEVER get 20mpg on the highway unless you kept it under 60mph, the GM always gets 22-23mpg and I think the 'high' on the screen is 24.8.

To be 100% honest I liked the RAM a little better overall, but this silverado gets decent mileage for what it is. Surprised to see some low numbers on stock trucks but everyone drives different.

I didn't know for sure but they both behave very similar, even the clunks down are similar in the lower gears.

2015 crew cab 6.2 2wd with 3.23 in town/ going to work average 14 mpg

hwy driving @ 73 -75mph 23 mpg. if I stay @ 65mph i can average 25mph straight hwy.

plus is has lots of power on tap. love this truck

I can average about 22-23 highway if i keep the speed reasonably low. My overall average is around 19-20 and that is mostly city with stretches of straights between stop lights. (30mph average speed on my commute accounting for stop lights).

IIRC, the rear wheel drive joint venture is a 10 speed.

Used to care about MPG, now I really couldn't care less. When it needs gas, I put it in, other than that, I just enjoy the truck.

Pulled my trailer up to Colorado from Texas and was getting 13 mpg against some serious 20-30 mph headwinds. Now that I am up here and dropped the trailer i got my best mpg on the display ever 23.8. That's with 4 people on board.

2015 CC RB with 2.5" level and 33's. Everything else is stock. In town(lots of stop and start in a small town) I get roughly 20L/100km(12mpg) and on the highway at 60mph I get a consistent 13L/100km(18mpg). Mind you my speedo has not been re-calibrated so I should be getting 8% better then those numbers(maybe I'll go check today on a gps run and by hand calculation).

Overall after the levelling kit and 33's that I've done to every vehicle I've owned I'm not that impressed. It gets on average 3-5mpg better then my 06 with the same setup ever did. But that monthly payment quickly eats up those fuel saving funds. Hell I've even contemplated those new EcoDiesels! Lol.

I actually did buy this truck for the fuel mileage claims cause when I'm out hunting and in the outdoors, the farther I can get on a tank so I can make sure to get back home then the better.

No... Those brought it down to the 16 to 18s from the low 20s...

Now its doing 14s...

Sent from my Note 4 on Tapashit

Got this issue also now. I used to get about 15 MPG city and about 18 MPG hwy if I was lucky. Suddenly i'm getting about 13.5 city and 16 hwy.. Not sure what happened...

Configured:
2015 Sierra 1500 5.3L Z71

1" level (I think from factory)

33" X 12.5" Toyo open country AT2

Not sure what do with this. If anyone has suggestion or thoughts please let me know what could have happened suddenly to drop in MPG. I would like to know before I make a 1200 mile trip.

Unrelated note: Just took the vehicle to the dealer for the recall on brake pedal pressure and oil change and rotated the tires. Said emissions was fine and nothing seemed off.

I didn't read the whole thread, but don't forget that depending on where you live, we are now in the realm of winter blend fuel - at least I am.

2016 Sierra z71, Double Cab, 5.3L, Black Bear Tune w/DOD turned off, LT275/65R18 Duratracs, 2" level + AAL, 118,000kms

Best was 10.8L/100K on a 1600km round trip, 1 passenger and about 500lbs of cargo.

My Avg right now over the last 10,000kms with no passengers and around 200lbs of cargo is 14.9L/100k, mostly hwy driving, and I typically have cruise on at 120kph.
