Heated seats to heated and cooled?

Recommended Posts

Anyone successfully upgraded from heated seats to heated and cooled seats? Just would like to know if it's worth the hassle. I have a 2015 Sierra 1500 All Terrain and it's the one option other than a sunroof that I would have liked but wasn't on the lot when I bought.

In a word, no.

That would be an incredible hassle and expense. You would need new seats (the vented seats are completely different), wiring harnesses, control modules, dash controls, and who knows what else. You would also need BCM programming to get them to turn on even if you had all the parts.

The A/T's aren't available with cooled seats, only SLT and Denali. That's the main reason I went with the SLT over the A/T.

The cooled seats are nice, but not worth that kind of hassle.

You can't get an All-Terrain with Cooled seats!! No such thing exists

That's kind of what I thought. I was hoping it was a dash switch, seats and a BCM reprogram. What else wasn't available in an all terrain that's available in a SLT?

Not what I was asking but thanks for the quick reply.

You said it wasn't available at the dealership when you were shopping for your truck so I was just stating you were looking for something that doesn't come on the All-Terrain..

As far as I know, that's it. The A/T has special carbon fiber-look seat material. I suppose that's why.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a black A/T, but the lack of cooled seats was the deal killer. Here in Texas I'm glad I have them!

Me too. I wanted an AT, but the cooled seats were on my "Must Have" list. So I bought a Denali instead.

To answer the OP's question... I wonder if the harness needs updating as well?

I checked the body shop electrical schematics and you can't tell. I'd need to order the Helm manuals like the ones I have for my Caddy to see for sure. Not sure if I want to drop $400 for manuals again right away.

Even if you could or did get all of the wiring and hard parts, you will never get around the part of programming the BCM. GM will not allow the dealer to flash the BCM in your truck with any programming that is different than what that module should have in it based on the VIN of your truck. so basically if your truck doesn't have the options you want, there is no way to add them back in after the fact if it requires the BCM to be flashed.

That loophole was closed when the 2014 trucks went live.

IMHO, cooled seats suck.

My wife has them in her 13 Explorer Limited...i find they make my "balls" feel super cool and weird when wearing shorts.

When I factory ordered my 16 SLT All Terrain 2 weeks ago, I definitely didn't care for cooled seats.

Ha ha! Well, you live in Canada.

Come August in Texas, I look forward to the "cool balls" treatment.

Exactly. The main benefit is not having any back sweat from the leather when it's 100* outside.

To me, it's just as important as the heated steering wheel in the winter. Both are now "must-haves" for me.

I'd rather have the 'heated and cooled' from my 15 than the 'heated and vented' in the 16.
