2016 Silverado remote start climate control

Can someone with remote start, possibly guide me on how to use the remote vehicle start climate control? Whenever I use the remote vehicle start feature, the air conditioning turns on, how does this work? Can I configure it to a certain temperature or does it do it automatically?

Sorry, couldn't find much in the manual :(

Any help would be great, thanks guys!

I'm sure there is not too much difference in my 14 verses yours. Yes when you use remote start the truck reads the outside temp and either turns on the heat or the A/C. Usually it will come on full blast fan speed or I believe that may be adjusted in the mylink settings. Once you turn the ignition on it should revert to the temp settings and fan speed you had selected before you turned the truck off and control automatically from there.

The AC light is always on, doesn't mean your AC is actually on. And they all blow cooler air when the temps outside are cooler because it takes time for them to warm up.

This is not fully accurate, on the 2014 trucks that first rolled out that was how they were programmed. It was a new programming style for GM versus prior years. Then GM released an update due to complaints on how the HVAC system operated and due to dust infiltration into the cab. The revised programming went back to how GM has always programmed their HVAC system to operate normally and also while under remote start events.

If my memory is right, if the interior temps are over 70° the AC will come on, if the interior temps are under 40° the heat will come on and the rear defroster will come on and the heated seats will turn on if selected in the menu to do so.

Ok great, thanks guys, I thought there was a way to set a temperature but if it does it automatically, i'm ok with that. I'll let GM decide my comfort levels :ughdance:

Total bs, I'm gonna put in a aftermarket start so that everything powers up to the settings instead if blowing aroun cold air

BS in what way? If it's cold the heat turns on. If it's hot the A/C turns on. What more do you want?

in the winter time it shouldn't start moving air until the truck comes up to a certain temp, especially on auto setting, as soon as u put key in you notice it just about shuts off until truck comes up to temp then automatically cranks back up to high

I thought the whole point of remote starting in the winter, is you would be getting in after it's warmed up anyway. Frankly, these trucks (mine anyway) warms up so fast that when the fan comes on is a moot point. There is also a setting for the fan speed at startup.

Lucky you I can remote start the full 20 min and still be ice cold. I drive the kids to school and I drive myself to work and the truck is still not fully warmed up. Maybe 6 miles total.

That really sounds like a t-stat issue. Does the engine temp reach 210 on a long enough trip?

Mine on a cold start will be putting out warm air within a 1/2 mile, and feels pretty good on just one 10 min remote start.

With dual zone auto climate:

Cold ambient temperature that is below 50°F (10°C):

Mode = Defrost

Temperature = 72°F (+/- 5°F) Example: If the owner had the temperature set to 80°F, the HVAC would be set to 77°F during a remote start. (72°+5°=77°)

Blower = Six bars

Recirculation = Fresh Air

A/C compressor = Only commanded on if conditions allow compressor engagement.

Hot ambient temperature that is above 59°F (15°C):

Mode = Last known settings

Temperature = 72°F (+/- 5°F) Example: If the owner had the temperate set to 80°F, the HVAC would be set to 77°F during a remote start. (72°+5°=77°)

Blower = Last known settings, unless the blower was in the "Off" position. In which case, the blower will be turned to the "Auto" setting.

Recirculation = Recirculation

A/C compressor = On

Mid ambient temperature that is anything between the cold and hot ambient temperature values:

Mode = Last known setting

Temperature = Last known setting(s)

Blower = Last known setting

Recirculation = Last known setting

A/C compressor = Last known setting

On transition to ignition on following an RVS event , the HVAC settings will return to last known settings.

Manual climate controls:

Cold ambient temperature that is below 50°F (10°C):

Mode = Defrost

Temperature = Last known setting

Blower = Last known setting

Recirculation = Fresh Air

A/C compressor = Only commanded on if conditions allow compressor engagement.

Hot ambient temperature that is above 59°F (15°C):

Mode = Panel Vents

Temperature = Last known setting

Blower = Last known setting

Recirculation = Recirculation

A/C compressor = On

Mid ambient temperature that is anything between the cold and hot ambient temperature values:

Mode = Last known setting

Temperature = Last known setting

Blower = Last known setting

Recirculation = Last known setting

Not to hijack the thread too much I believe your right and have requested they check the thermostat operation as part of the service appointment tomorrow morning.

If the t-stat was having issues you would have known by now. The ECM watches for a stuck open t-stat, vehicle has to reach 167° with in so many minutes after start up otherwise the ECM will trigger a P0128 code which is for a stuck open t-stat.

With a tune you can increase the idle speed in cold weather to make it warm up faster. Works nicely.
