OEM Grille- Is the Mesh part removable?

I wanted to replace the chrome surround of my Z71 grille with a black surround, so I bought this Black Surround and mesh grille online and I thought that I could remove the mesh and install the Z71 Horizontal upper and lower inserts. After quickly looking at it, is this possible?

 

I should have researched before purchase.....

Hmmm...I know they don't sell them separate, its the whole grille. That said, you'd have to flip that new one over and see if there are any sort of retaining clips, etc. that hold them in. They may or may not come out...

chrome 14/15 eggshells and Z71 bars/ZL1 bars are removable

 

if you have the base chrome or the paintable w/t grill the eggshell mesh is not removable.

 

or at elast it wasn't on a 14.

 

I'd like to know the same about 16s.. I want the chrome LTZ inserts withotu the $530 pricetag.

Not true on the WT grille. That's what I have and I installed a High Country insert.

Ah, ok, odd that only the LT grill is more "base" than the others.

But then the w/t grill is modular I guess for paintable trim trucks too.

Do you know if the inserts are something you can price from GM? Do they have PNs? Is it cheaper to go that route?

Z71 inserts work on a honeycomb frame?? I thought they were different size

Found out they don't. My original question was removability, never thought the tab placements would be different. I ended up installing the honeycomb for now.

Think it looks good. Just get you a Z71 logo and mount it on there.
