How do you remove gas from the tank?

I'm the OP and we have a few hurricanes in MA once in a while, BUT we have Snow Blizzards & Ice Storms every year and lose electricity regularly due to branches knocking down wires ... We had one ice storm that took 6 days to restore electricity.

 

I keep 10 gallons of gas next to my generator that holds another 6 gallons - that's not alot of running time, but another 36 gallons in the truck could be my lifesaver

 

as the moderator said - I was asking how to do it and not your opinion about whether "to doing it"

That is alike a nice November afternoon up here in Canada, pull out the toboggan and rip it up. Whats the big deal.

 

 

 

PS. I lived through the Montreal Ice Storm of 1996 which was the worst frost/snow related disaster in recent history. Smack dab in the middle of it, cars were literally frozen in blocks on ice on the street. Amount of Genny power we used , zero we just lit candles and cooked with a camping stove. No one was in real danger without power except those at old folks homes or hospitals.

No prob if you want to rough it with candles

My "emergency":  We lose power most winters in Seattle outlying area for prolonged periods, sometimes local gas stations also lose power and can't pump.  Express van (29 gal) and boat (25 gal) back up the 20 gallons in cans for the generator.

I can see when this would be nice to know. There is a hurricane coming and I have 25 gallons of gas for our generator. If I was to run out I would really want to get the other 24 gallons out of my truck to provide power to my family. And I would call this an emergency.

I happen to have a short section of fuel line with the crimp for fitting into GM's quickconnect setup, so I can unplug the fuel line under the hood, stick in this section with a hose on it into a fuel container, then use Autogenuity to command the fuel pump to turn on & off (need to do this vs just turning the key on, as the computer will only turn the pump on for a few seconds unless the engine is running).

Ya - I see I screwed up the title ... DUH me

I usually find it the easiest way to get the gas out of the tank is to drive it for long distances at a time.      Sorry couldn't resist.

what if you just put $90 worth of gas in the truck and had an opportunity to trade it in to a dealer, but $90 is a lot of money to you and you don't want to give the gas to the dealer who is making out like a bandit anyway????
