Not your standard HID question

Noticed this weekend when driving that my voltage is running much lower than I thought it should. Right in the middle between 9 and 14. I do have DDM HID 55watt 5000k with code eliminators and the Dual Relay running to the battery.

With the lights off, the voltage seems low, however, once they turned on at dusk, the voltage went right up to 14 volts where I feel it should be all the time.

Any ideas?

The system only charges when it needs to, it's explained in the owners book. I would be more worried about the low oil.....

Thank you!! ha, should have probably checked the manual.

Yes, definitely more worried about the "low oil" issue

Is the oil level actually low, or is it a sensor issue?

Assuming its a sensor issue since i did check the level and it appeared to be right on the money. Even if its a sensor, a bit frustrated as I feel this shouldn't be happening on a 2014 with 44k miles

I wouldn't worry about the voltage. Mine did the same thing, even before I installed my HID kit.

Pardon my ignorance, why do we want a 12v system to produce steady state 14v? + >15%

We don't, it was just easier for the last 70 years to produce a constant 14v so the battery would charge.

I love the fact these trucks only produce 14v when needed. One of the first things I noticed about my truck when I got it. Took one look at the gauge producing 12v and I'm thinking "clever girl"
