Craziest picture of a Silverado involved in a crash with a semi truck

I would have sworn that was photoshopped but after watching the newscast. I stand corrected. I would never have thought a full frame vehicle would rolled up like that. Prayers to the family of those involved.

 

I know it seems unbelievable, but according to another post the 18 wheeler was rearended by another 18 wheeler and then the truck got sandwiched between that 18 wheeler and an 18 wheeler in front. So there were basically 3 18 wheelers vs a pickup truck. Assuming all 3 weren't over the 80,000 limit (without permits and so on) that's up to 160,000 lbs and at least about 70-75,000 combined if they were both empty. Being that it was an 18 wheeler in front I'm sure it was like the pickup was pushed into something that wasn't moving like a wall. With the force of the 2 18 wheelers being, the 18 wheeler up front that the pickup ran into might have moved a little, but not much. IT just looks like the 18 wheeler that hit the pickup was also going up and took the back of the pickup with it.

There had to be a stationary object in front of the truck to have rolled the two frame rails. Even then, this is pretty improbable.   But if so, the aluminum vs steel argument is pointless. W

not fake at all, I work in the scrap metal biz and I can ASSURE you most passenger vehicles are truly like balls of confetti compared to heavy equipment. A tractor trailer like that can be equipped to travel @ a combined gross weight of 100,000 lbs+ regularly. The frame of that semi is 5-6x as thick as a 1/2 ton truck, a 1/2 ton truck has a stouter & longer steel frame & heavier beefier axles/suspension, after that it aint much different than a camry strength wise when you put it up against those kinds of forces.

 

Think about that - 5500-6500 lbs vs. 100,000 lbs+

 

who wins?

I only posted it because I couldnt wrap my head around a full sized truck folding in half as it did. If the mods wish to delete this thread they are more than welcome (I cant) but the photo is apparently on numerous sites on the internet. I just wanted to share the pic with you guys and gals since most of us here drive a k2xx truck.

 

Now that I know this pic is real along with the backstory, prayers to all of the familes involved! Stay safe out there!!

If the mods wish to delete this thread they are more than welcome (I cant) but the photo is apparently on numerous sites on the internet. I don't believe anyone meant any harm or disrespect. Now that we know the story, I would like to see the image removed from this forum. I appreciate that the picture is out there but we can do our part.

I could see if it shows the people that it would be a little disturbing, but since it doesn't I see nothing wrong with it. Seeing the picture actually helps show people the kind of stuff that can happen if you don't pay attention to what you're doing.

It is insensitive to the families involved, whether we know them or not, and serves no value in teaching us to be careful or that we are not invincible. It is disrespectful and serves no purpose in this particular context in my opinion. If the red mark below the driver's door belonged to one of your loved ones this issue wouldn't be about "political correctness".

Pretty big leap going political. Political Correctness is when you stop doing something for fear that it may result in someone being offended by way of potential association. Being compassionate is when you refrain from rubbing shit in someones face. I do not think the OP intended the post to be bad, nor do I think we view it as something that should be offensive to everyone that has lost someone to a vehicle accident.

 

Given the information, the vehicle as-is in the photo shows the temporary casket for 2 members of a family. They likely do not want to be confronted with the image on the news or any website, so it is compassionate to not help propagate it. Heck, I do not think some of the community would be any where near as concerned/bothered if the photo was of the truck opened up after the bodies were recovered.

 

To be politically correct, we would demand that no accident photos be published. The point is we can be compassionate without "surrendering our flag."

I really wonder about Ford's F150 aluminum trucks. If this is high strength steel, how does an aluminum truck stand up to this? Suffice it to say I heard speculation that Chevy is going down that road in the next 2 yrs or whatever.. I can't imagine a truck getting squashed like a soda can. Not safe or good for anyone when its piled between 18 wheelers.

      I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.

      I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below.       Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
