Well after some work and some digging and some wiring I have finally completed the retrofit of my RCSB Blackout (Which was the WT trim with the small radio) to have the IO5 stereo, Color DIC Gauge Cluster and Heated Steering wheel with all the controls working, both the DIC and the stereo controls work. I would guess that total I have about $2000 tied up in all of this so it can get costly and it isn't for the feint of heart, you will be cutting into factory wires. This will only work if you have the IO4 option code, if you have the IO3 stereo you are probably out of luck.

Gauge cluster programming was provided by Chris over at WAMS, I highly suggest going to Chris for all your custom module programming needs. He is a busy guy so if you have questions on this swap you will want to post them here as Chris won't be able to help you out with anything other than providing the custom programming for the cluster. You can request prices from his site at: http://www.whiteautoandmedia.com/

All of the information needed to do this retrofit can been dug up from the upfitters electrical manual available at: https://www.gmupfitter.com/pages/body-builder-manuals

If you plan on attempting this familiarize yourself with the information I post and this manual, it will save you some head aches.

Basically all you are doing is tying back the steering wheel controls to the gauge cluster on the LIN Bus (one wire, that doesn't exist if you don't have controls) and then adding the gauge cluster to the MOST bus via the stereo. This is easily done at the radio module behind the HMI (The top box, but you know this if you have upgraded to IO5 or IO6) just with the grey 8 pin connector which actually is where it shows the gauge cluster being in relation between the amplifier and the radio. You will want to put the gauge cluster in series on the most bus on wires 3 and 4 from the far right connector on the radio module. So basically you will cut these wires and where they were going in to the radio now they will go into the gauge cluster on pins 1 and 2 and the return to the radio from pins 17 and 18 on the gauge cluster, all this can be found in the upfitter manaul. Then you will want to grab the MOST enable signal from wire 7 on the connector and bring it back to the gauge cluster also, you can tap off of it.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here and I will try to stop in every so often and answer. PM's will go unanswered as I don't want to type the same info out 20 times so just post it here so we can have one post covering this. I will also try and post some diagrams and more pictures next week along with a link to the pins that plug in to the blank spots on the connector of the gauge cluster to add the above circuits.

But yes, this can be done.

Thanks,

Kyle

So I have a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado "Custom" double cab.

I have a IOB module so I swapped it out with a Linkswell GEN 4 T style radio from ADC Mobile. https://www.adcmobile.com/product/gen-4-t-style-radio-for-2014-19-gm-trucks/

How can i hook up Denali heated steering wheel & cluster without stock radio/IOB?

Also wanting to Change my stock seats to power & heating/cooling.

I know for sure I need a harness from the Harness Dr.

All help is greatly appreciated!

You can easily swap the Denali cluster Its a matter of programming and you can install the heated steering wheel but you have to change the steering coil for it to work But for the heated/cooling seats its not yet possible as in my knowledge

It is possible to do the seats. He needs harnesses from the harnessdr like he mentioned.

Where can I get the steering coil to buy?

Awesome writeup! I had a steering wheel with radio controls already, but added a wheel with the controls and heated, but after installing I am getting no lights on the steering wheel. Heat works, and I read through this thread and just assumed I needed the lin harness from harnessdr. Ordered the harness and went to install and I already have a wire in pin 20 on the cluster, spliced anyway but still no lights and truck is still showing lost communication on lin bus. I used my Fluke to do a continuity test, and it is coming up good all the way from the steering wheel connector through to the cluster connector. I removed the splice and I am still getting a good signal, so apparently no need for the wire for my Suburban.

Any thoughts on why the lights still won't work? The only other thing done differently is the Android Auto HMI and Radio module upgrade from WAMS. Obviously after that update I lost the radio controls, but all the lights still functioned, but that was the old steering wheel. The only thing left I can think of is maybe this "new" (used) steering wheel is either broken, or not compatible with the Suburban maybe?

Hi

Does anyone know if this wiring upgrade will work on a 2020 Silverado custom truck

I Would like to charge my steering wheel to add steering wheel controls

Before I do all that just what to know if it’s the same procedure  for a newer 2020

thanks

Does anyone have experience with a 21 5500? It uses the same cab as a 2016 3500. I have a base truck with the 7" screen. Bought the linkwell 12.1" display and would like to upgrade the cluster as well add add steering controls. Would love to just pay to have it done or buy a kit if someone makes something?  Thanks

What a great thread, time to bring it back from the dead.  In my 2015 Police Tahoe, what's the latest/ greatest preferred combination of parts to have the upgraded cluster, working steering wheel controls, and a larger display with Apple carplay in the dash?

I am a little confused ,can i get some help.2015 Silverado Wt

I did Denali cluster from white auto ,New heated wheel with controls and correct clock spring and did wire from clock spring to cluster. Everything works ,but no audio controls.IO4 now.

Should i just go aftermarket radio, to get steering controls to work radio or has someone

simplified the process of upgrading to bigger screen and getting everything figured out??

Thank you
