Supercharger vs Turbocharger help

First I know absolutely nothing about boosting an engine so please excuse my ignorance. I've got a 2016 Chevy Silverado crew cab ltz 4x4 with the 6.2 max tow package. I've looked at the different brands of superchargers, and turbochargers and I really don't know which option would be the best combination of power, and reliability. I would like to keep the gas mileage as good as possible. So I guess my questions would be what brand/style would you pick, and how long should I expect my engine and drivetrain to last. It will never see a drag strip, and I will tow 10k lbs with it maybe 15 times a year. I plan on pairing it with with the Borla gm exhaust, or the corsa gm exhaust as I'd like a sleeper feel to the truck. Thanks!

The question is how much work do you want. Supercharger is pretty much a self contained package, turbo needs work and fitment. Some kits might be direct fit, but still more work.

Honestly if I can find a reputable shop that can do oem level work it doesn't bother me as long as in thr long run I have bad very reliable package.

I would say supercharger personally, but if you can find a decent shop that can build a nice turbo setup without raping your checking account, it is worth discussing

For your case, a supercharger would definitely be the way to go. It'll give you monstrous torque at low rpm with a 6.2, which will definitely help out with towing. As long as you keep the truck on low boost (around 5-8 psi), it should have no reliability issues. But beware of the hefty price tag, especially since you plan on having a shop to do the install.

A turbo isn't a bad idea entirely, but they are typically more complicated to deal with imo. Plus they won't give the pronounced low end torque for towing that superchargers give you.

Don't forget the turbo heat issues, and a turbo is even more complex if you want to keep it sleeper quiet.

A turbo is more efficient with potentially higher top end power (in street trim).

SC is an afternoon bolt on and canned tune. More linear, quiet, excellent packaging, cheaper, more reliable and it'll give you all the power you're looking for and then some.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards a supercharger, but I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't making a hasty decision. What brand would you guys go with in a supercharger?

Many would suggest Magnusson or Whipple. I've heard something about Hennessey putting together a nice kit but it costs a pretty penny. What will help you out a lot is using the forum search. You can find a lot of information about superchargers and the various ones used by forum members. That alone may bring you to a decision.

Thank you! I did a search under supercharger and read a bunch of info. I've been going between the Whipple, Magna charger, and Edlebrock systems. The turbo intrigued me, but $10k for a system before install is kinda steep. My biggest fear I guess is since I don't abuse my vehicles will I be able to get 100,000+ miles out of a boosted 6.2l.

With no abuse and proper maintenance, yes

I don't drag race, or do hard launches (I know all the fun stuff but I'm a road course guy when it comes to racing.) Basically the hardest the truck will be used is towing, or flooring it occasionally when I'm already at speed.

I have a 92 Chevy that's had a.whipple since new. At 80K it got a rebuild (smoking) to a 383 aluminum roller heads and 10lb boost. At 100K miles I bought it 5 years ago and the transmission was rebuilt. The 373 rear is still original. I'm not easy on it but not brutal, put gauges on it and don't lean it out it it'll be fine.

I put the Armageddon twin turbo package on mine back in March. Still averages around 19 mpg and runs mid11's at the track at over 120mph and drive it every day. it's a 2015 Silverado cc 4x4 with 6.2 8 speed tuned by AMP in Grand Prairie Texas.

For these land yachts and a DD, I would recommend a supercharger.

What's your thoughts on the supercharger that's on the cts-v and the Camaro zl1?
