On a lease the Dealer says I have to pay for new fuse box!

I took my 2014 Sierra All Terrain 1500 to the dealer because my reverse lights would never turn off. They called me back and said the fuse box needs to be replaced and it would cost $480 plus diagnostic fee of $80. However I leased this truck for 3 years/12k mil a year and the truck already had 5k miles on it because the owner of the dealer drive it has his personal truck before I got it. Right now the truck has 40k miles on it and they say it's out of warranty and it's not covered. Does anyone else think this is bs?!

I think it should be 3yr/36k mil from when I started my lease. They also asked why I didn't purchase extended warranty, I said I'm under lease and it has never been offered to me!

Technically the dealer is correct. The vehicle has a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty, period. That's one of the drawbacks of buying/leasing a demo, the warranty starts when it was put in demo service. Are you taking it to the dealership you leased it from? I would ask them to good will at least a portion of the repair.

That would mean they put it as in service when they were driving it, thus activating the warranty when it started as a demo truck so yes, out of warranty. Goodwill is an option for the dealer as well, or partial cost (you pay X percentage of the repair).

Sounds like you leased a demo....You still have the full 3yr/36k coverage. You need to point this out to the service rep.

Dealer use would not put it "in service" It only happens when the vehicle is titled. If the truck had 5k when leased...he will have warranty coverage till 41K miles and 3yrs from lease.

FYI...I have purchased "demos' in the past....demos are not put in service till sold. My warranty coverage has been the bumper to bumper plus the mileage on the demo. ie. last demo had 1400 miles, warrantied till 37400 miles.

We bought my wife's Terrain as a demo with 4k miles. Her bumper to bumper is 3 years from our purchase date and 40k miles. I made sure of this.

I understood that the warranty date expiry would be extended but not the total mileage if you bought a demo. I did not know that you were responsible for major repairs on a leased vehicle unless you caused the damage. It certainly takes away from the advantage column to me for leasing!

Per GM, anything over 1000 miles on the odometer does not get a "warranty reboot". If it had 995 miles on it when he bought it, GM would extend the warranties to 3yr/36,995mi and powertrain to 5yr/100,995mi.

If it has 1001 miles, you would get the remainder of the warranty coverage times.

If they will not fix under warranty take it to your local specialty auto electrical shop and get a price for the repairs before forking over the cash to the dealership. Might just be a simple push in connection replacement that cost all of 50 cents

I think the issue here is that the OP didn't buy a "demo." He bought a used truck - that's a typical dealer line "driven by the owner." If it was truly a demo, it would not have been titled, and thus the in-service date would be his purchase date.

I had to re read the OPs post, he states he is leasing a used truck, or did he mistype that? Why would you ever lease a used vehicle?

The dealerships do not take stuff apart and fix it they just replace the entire piece.

Reminds me of healthcare in a way. No one cares how much it the cost is nothing out of pocket, they will go back to the doctor twice a day for months but when it starts costing them out of pocket all of a sudden their sniffles dry right up and they do not really need that specialist after all LOL.......

The underhood block can't be serviced other than by replacement. No parts can be bought for them other than fuses and connector blanks (no wiring). They have printed circuit relays in them as well that can't be replaced either.
