First gas truck, power help?

New guy here!!

So I've always had diesel trucks and still have a few projects. I daily drove a twin turbo cummins that made 704 on the Dyno before it started to slip... Wellll someone decided to drive on the wrong side of the road and smash into it at roughly 65mph. So anyway I bought myself a 2016 Silverado with the 5.3, as I needed a reliable daily for the next few years as im back in school and moving about 600 miles away for work.

So to the point, I've been searching on the forums and haven't found too much.

Want more power but these trucks aren't like the diesel world where I can make literally another 300hp at the flip of a switch.

I've been looking at headers and y pipe into a STOCK exhaust as I need to keep this thing quite. The thing is before I go dumping cash into it, I don't want just a 10hp gain. I've seen things on YouTube of people saying almost 40hp gain. Is this true? Is this all top end power?. Really don't want to supercharge this truck as I plan to upgrade in a few years.

Man if your comin from that kind of power then just doing some bolt ons likely isn't gonna get you what you want.

I have seen a couple dyno graphs on here tho of people doing bolt ons, power is gained across the board. Not anything like throwing a tune on a diesel tho.

Do what you did with your cummins...Twin Turbo!

But in all seriousness, long tube headers with a catless Y pipe will give you some nice gains with a CUSTOM TUNE on the dyno. If you want some extra flow, you can run a true dual system with a big "dual in dual out" muffler to keep it quiet.

You could do a cam, head work, long tube headers, and a quiet exhaust and make decent power. I hate to be "that guy" but starting with a 6.2l would've helped a lot. Coming from the power levels you're used too just doing headers, and a tune probably will leave you disappointed in the money you spent on just those two things.

Sounds like a horrible accident! I hope you are doing okay. The way I look at your question is that you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. However. a sow's ear (in this situation) is excellent in its own right. The 5.3, if geared properly, provides ample reserve power for work and pleasure. You've experienced serious "downsizing" which isn't fun whether it is your home or vehicle!

If you want big power, a blower is the only way to go. I've been thinking about a whippel myself. Well... mostly dreaming, but it could happen!

something like this should do it ...

It only picked up 50 tq with a blower? Hp looks right but that tq sounds low to me.

Well let me re-phrase I'm not looking for the power my old truck have had. As I have to admit it's nice getting in the thru way when it's raining and not having to put it in 4wd. The reason I went with the 5.3 is I got an absolute steal of a deal on this truck that was too good to pass up.

But I'd be happy with another 40hp or so. I've seen guys claiming almost 60hp with full bolt ons and a tune.

I have some long tube headers, 3" corsa exhaust, cold air intake & a custom tune. According to a dyno I added about 40 hp to the ground which is decent for a gas truck. The cost of a similar setup may or may not justify the power gain though, that's up to you to decide. A tune alone will help your driveablility though, and will make the truck "get up and go" much quicker. However more breatheability always helps with adding power. I love driving my truck after the mods but if you're coming from a diesel powered truck it'll be quite the difference. All my buddies tune and delete there diesels and get insane amounts of power. Wish I could say the same for mine, but I will argue that mine does sound cooler though haha.

XC I experienced what you are going through a few years back. Had an 05 2500HD ECSB 4x4 Duramax with a PPE tune and cat delete. That thing would roll coal and just plain move. Unfortunately during a highly alcoholic session I agreed to sell it to a good friend. Literally regretted it after I replaced it with an 08 1500 CCSB 4x4 Z71 5.3. Even with a custom tune, Magnaflow exhaust, and CAI it was gutless to put it mildly. Swore I would never buy another 5.3 so I sold it and bought an 11 2500HD 4x4 ECSB Duramax before getting the 6.2 All Terrains. Short of installing a supercharger I am afraid you won't be satisfied with the power on tap.

If you're used to that power and torque, you'll never be satisfied with a gasser. Sounds like you bought the wrong truck.

Even with thousands and thousands of dollars in mods you won't be near that diesel power.

Maybe it is not the wrong truck if it is accepted that it is a different truck. As I mentioned earlier, the 5.3 has ample power for most purposes expected from a 1/2 ton. A 3/4 ton with a diesel is designed for a different category of functions.

Wrong truck for him. I bought a silverado knowing an S10 would be the wrong truck for me.

The 5.3 has plenty of power but it will disappoint him when he's used to a diesel. I would be too. My bike is a 1000cc and anything less is noticeably slower.

I know this truck will never compare to the trucks I've built in the past, and also because I'm not going to dump money into this truck like I have others lol. But for what this truck is I do really like it. But again I wouldn't mind another 30-60hp on tap. I don't tow 13,000lbs every day like I used to so a half ton is all I need for the time being until I get my other truck project done.
