Help! My new Silverado vs Used Raptor

I posed this same question in a Raptor forum but wanted opinions on both sides of the aisle.

Basically I want to know if upgrading the suspension to coilovers will satisfy me and be worth it or if it will cost too much to get the Silverado on the same playing field. I love the look and the cab of my Silverado but hate the ride/engine performance compared to the Raptor.

I had a 2011 SCAB and was not as informed as I am now when I first purchased it. The previous owner put it through its paces and it was not in the best shape when I purchased it. It was still an awesome truck and held its value very well. So much so that I was made an offer than I couldn't refuse and parted ways with it for a Jeep.

I quickly realized that I couldn't go without a truck and decided to be more sensible and purchased a brand new 2016 Silverado Z71 LTZ Midnight Edition loaded to the gills. It's a beautiful truck with more options than I know what to do with BUT...it's not a Raptor.

I've missed having a Raptor ever since I left mine go. I should've opted for another Raptor after selling my first one but you know what they say about hindsight.

Anyway, I found a 2014 Tuxedo Black SCREW for a steal that was most definitely a grocery getter. I don't think it has ever been off pavement. I went over it with a fine tooth comb and the skid plates don't have a scratch on them. No mods and new Duratracs on the OEM beadlocks.

Only issue is the truck has 85k miles. It would basically be an even swap money wise. I just can't wrap my mind around trading a 2016 Silverado with an extended warranty that is perfectly serviceable for a 2014 Raptor with 85k miles aside from the fact that I just want another Raptor haha. I'm not really looking to pay any more than I am now either - I know there are plenty of low mileage 14's but they are still going for high $40's. Anybody else purchase a higher mileage Raptor?

I guess I'm between modding the Silverado and making it more appealing to me, waiting a year or two to see if Gen 1 prices come down or just saying F it and jumping on this one now. I just know my truck will depreciate a lot faster than a Raptor as well.

I have a feeling I already know what the responses will be but hoping someone else who has been in my shoes can shed light.

Also, I'm in Ohio and it will be on pavement 85% of the time and is most definitely my daily driver.

Trading a brand spanking new fully loaded LTZ for a 2-year old Raptor with 85k on it?????

Am I missing something? Seems like an easy choice.

And that choice would not include a trade.... The money you can spend on mods is probably the same amount you'd lose on this trade and you'd still have a new LTZ with less miles.

Do you plan on keeping the raptor stock?

Yes, it already has a retractable hard bedcover. The Fox shocks will need rebuilt around 100k miles but would be ready to roll off the lot just how I want it.

I would trade for the raptor. Their ride quality is hard to beat out of the gate that's for sure. I think you'd have to stick some $$$$ into the Silverado to match its Offroad capabilities.

The Raptor in that condition is actually valued higher than my new Silverado with 7500 miles. Those things hold their value like you couldn't believe. I know it seems crazy but unless you've driven one, it's hard to understand.

If you tow/haul anything keep what you have. Raptor suspension is too soft for towing plus they are about 7' wide so if you ever use automatic car washes forget it. I would keep what you have and upgrade your suspension.

If you plan on using it a lot off-road and hitting the dunes the Raptor is the way to go.

Holding their value on paper is different than holding their value in the real world. By that I mean which one is likely to last longer. But that's just me.

I had a 2011 so I'm aware of the car wash situation haha. A lot of places have signs that say "No Raptors". Don't tow anything other than a small landscaping trailer from time to time and hauling stuff for yard work.

What have you done Performance wise to you Silverado?

A set of Headers, intake and a good tune will wake it up!

Nothing yet but how much will all of that that plus a coilover lift/tires/wheels set me back?

I have Texas Speed Headers and off-road y pipe with custom built exhaust, Air rade intake, and custom tune. With Dyno Time and doing the install myself I have about 1200 in it I guess.

But will it be when new ones start hitting the market? I have a feeling there will be a pretty sharp drop in a year or two.

Keep the silverado, and mod the suspension. Mazulla mid travel kit, 3.0 king coil overs you'll be WAY better off then the Gen 1 raptor.

I was between a gen 2 raptor or my 17 LTZ. For the price difference i could have a built silverado !
