Tuner/Programmer Question

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4, 5.3L, 6-speed trans. I leveled it and want to go with bigger tires. I bought the Diablo I2 thinking I could add a custom tune and change the tire size all at the same time.

Well, what I didn't realize is that Diablo doesn't support 2017's yet because GM "made it harder to tune the ECU for 2017." So I've had a brand new $399 tuner for six weeks waiting for Diablo to come out with an update to support the 2017 5.3L. Today I finally heard from them, not about when the tune will be available, but that I won't be able to change my tire size due to the 2017 "restrictions" or whatever.

Are there any other tuners that work on 2017 GMC's? That will allow me to change my tire size and also add a tune (turn AFM off, add a few HP, get better mileage)? It looks like I might as well have burned $399 for all that the I2 is going to do for me (if it ever gets an update to even work on a 2017.)

Let me know if anyone has a 2017 and has had luck with another tuner. I'm getting tired of Diablo.

As far as I know, there are no hand held tuner available yet for the 17 model.

Did Diablo Sport give you any time line on when it might be available for the 17??

Also as far as the tire size, Diablo had problems with that on the 16 and then later updated it to work I believe, so that may get fixed later, unless they told you something else, what exactly did they say? Never for tire size change on 17??

Hypertech In-Line Speedometer Calibrator - Part #730124

I don't Know how this works, but Hypertech lists part # 730124 for a 2017 to change tire size and correct speedometer calibration. It won't turn the engine, but at least you could fix your tire size setup. And keep the Diablo to tune the engine. If they ever update it for the 2017.

Thanks for the info. I may just cut my losses, sell the I2 and buy the Hypertech. I won't get any HP or mileage gains, but at least my speedo will read correctly and my mileage will be right.

I doubt the trans will go back into a "learning mode" since restoring the backup places all the last parameters back in the TCM. Of course, I suppose the ECM/TCM are always "'learning".

BTW, Natives are the best yaks LOL.

Natives Suck! No no, just kidding. I was very impressed with the Natives too. In fact, I love how you can kick the pedals up and out of the way.

I took a slayer propel out on a demo but I just didn't like the prop on it and the way it pedaled. I'm really interested in the Coosa FD. That flex drive is made for the river rat, I'd say I'll sell one and get it for days I do single access floats lol. I've been eyeballing nucanoes for a long while too though, I like the seat and open deck.

What motor/trans combo do you have? I was told that BBP can only tune the motors in the 17s and not the trans if it's an 8 speed/6.2

can anyone say for 100% certainty, that if you take the tune off, the dealer cannot tell it was ever on there, and it will not void/affect warranty? just want to cover myself of any possible issues w that

Nope. Can't say that with any certainty. They can see it if they dig far enough. Usually only if it's a major engine faliure and also if they see things indicating mods done. I believe GM asks for the info on ECM flashes. The dealer has some ability to get around this but their hands are tied after a point. Maybe someone else with more experience than I in this area will come in.

Diablo claims its undetectable. I've seen many posts debating this topic. Diablo people claim it can't be detected, while you have your GM mechanics/techs and others that work on the trucks that say they can always find evidence of it if they dig deep enough.

I have mine tuned. 2015 5.3L 3.42 gears. I love the tune. Many said it makes the truck feel "Awake" and I agree. I have 87 tune, AFM Off, TM Off, Shift pressure up. And Throttle boost up 20%. But might bring that to 0%.

Just reading this, you guys mentioned the flapper squeak. I hated that damn thing. And ever since the tune. I can't remember the last time I heard it. Now I'm even more happy.
