I know what your saying im a baby boomer so I know what older stuff is. There is good and bad with the newer trucks. More things to go wrong in some respect. But dang these newer trucks are nice to.

I'd rather have more durable/better quality paint, and body panels than electronic nannies. I like some technology, but not all of it.

Give me a stove-bolt six, four-on-the-floor, and a Johnson-bar transfer case WITH my CD-only surround-sound system, heated leather Barcaloungers and a decent heater, and I'd be in heaven. Screw all this modern computerized stuff.

Most of us here own GM vehicles. It is safe to say GM is way far back on the technology scene. If we shopped for technology, we would not be at a GM forum. People here did purchase basic vehicles. Come to think of it, what is ground breaking technology on a 2017 Sierra Denali? Yep, nothing. It is a basic vehicle with common options found on a Kia.

 

Remember: "It's got technology and stuff!"

For the most part new vehicles are awesome and way safer, but a lot of the gimmicky add-ons like lane departure, blind spot monitoring, back up assist, parallel parking assist, etc, is something I couldn't care less about. But I know that it's a major selling point for a lot of consumers.

 

I would like a modern version of a gmt800 with modern quality assurance, tighter panel gaps, quieter interiors, 6AT, etc.

My favorite is how newer vehicles are touting all those assists thingies. Sad part is if they'd make a dang vehicle that you could actually see out of those of us who know how to drive wouldn't need them. Some of these newer vehicles visibility sucks!

As modern societies we're also enabling users to not learn how to drive or operate machinery properly, which at the end of the day a car ultimately is. Check your surroundings, focus on the road ahead, etc.

Well lets see. My first ride was a 6 volt system, which on a cold day would perhaps start. Wipers worked except when going up hill, live in New England so your either going down or up. Heater worked but defroster sucked, so the windshield iced over on the inside. Perhaps the fact the floorboards had holes either for the pedals and shift or most likely rust. Radio played at least three stations but was hard to hear over the exhaust noise since either the muffler or pipe always seemed to have holes also. Lights were a bit sketchy as the generator played hell keeping the battery up. Without blinkers signaling was a bit tricky in the winter, either lost all the heat, got more moisture in the car, got wet with the window down, etc. Passenger side mirror was one of a few options very few purchased. Had no reason to see what was on the passenger side very few four lane roads to go 45 mph on.

 

Have ordered every option over the past 50 years and love the massage and flashing lights. Getting to old to drive but with assistance so far have fooled the law.

Goes both ways, self driving options can help people drive when they are on their phones. They ARE going to be on their phones, that isn't slowing down at all, might as well have the computer paying attention to the road if they aren't.

My 2015 WT1 RCSB has as little as one can buy tech wise. Most of what it does have, I could do without; like the OnStar and the My Link. Entire screen system could go bye-bye, except the Bluetooth. I could do without the electric door locks. I don’t need or want a stability control system or torque management. I lived most my life without tire pressure monitors and could get by without those too.

Electronic six speed. I like it. I like it allot. I do wish the manual mode was indeed manual and not a range selector. That would make tow mode redundant. A pickup with paddle shift.

Of all the things about this truck I like, I like the brakes the best. Those bad boys will haul down a Boeing 767 and could still do it well without ABS. I hate ABS. Always have, always will.

What it doesn’t have that could be useful. Adaptive cruise control. Auto dimming rear view mirror. Trade the My Link for it. Intake runner wash injection that supplies 10% or so of the fuel load. Ethanol content meter and AFR meter. Digital not analog. Being it is Flex fuel and all. Just say’n.
