If you put the new sub in where the Bose sub was like I did then there isn't any room to mount an amp under there anywhere. Even if there was there would be no easy way to access it without unbolting the console or cutting part of it open somewhere.

Na my subs will be going under the rear seat, but looks like my DD m2a would fit in the console fine where your new sub box is located. Just wasnt sure if there was a easy way to access it or not. Sounds like there isnt.

Nope. If you look at my first picture that is the console slid back at the bottom of the pic. That's what it looks like with the cup holder/storage are snapped off. There's a small hole there where the wiring comes through for the connectors but not enough for access to an amp.

If you rarely needed access it could work. It's pretty easy to slide the console back.  Just pull the front storage area and outer side storage panels off, remove 6 bolts, unplug those connectors and slide it back.

Yea I was afraid of that. Ah well. I just dont like the idea of cutting out insulation to fit an amp. And my amp isnt exactly small lol

I'm still in the planning stage, still need to pull it all apart and run wires and build a custom box. So it will be a little while till I figure it all out.

Thanks alot!

Truthfully I dont need access to it very often, I use a nice remote bass knob so I really shouldn't need to get to it. But the factory radio also leaves alot to be desired when it comes to tuning...

Very true. I'm still working on trying to find the right balance. The bass control knob is a must have. Still need to figure out how I'm going to mount mine.

Anyone in here care to share how you have your LC2i set? I need to spend more time with it, but something just doesn't seem right with the balance on my setup so far. Hard to explain, but it just doesn't sound right.

I mounted my bass knob under the dash to the ac vent directly above the gas pedal. I have to lean forward to make adjustments while driving, but it's hidden and I didn't want to drill holes in my dash.07602dd3d3ef6ac8be18ee402b7252bd.jpg

I was thinking about using some double sided tape to stick it to the side of my console high in the  map pocket area. I have it coming out in that area now, but it's just draped into the console.

I have the Bose system without the console, meaning no sub.

Is the amp the same as the Bose trucks with the sub as without?

If so, anyone have the specs on the factory Bose amp, specially the sub output channel,

The Bose system minus the sub is around 200 watts. Not sure what the sub amp is it’s def not powerful most likely to not rattle the center console. I added a second sub from kicker and left the Bose sub hooked up.

Yes mine does, all of it. The center console is ON the box snug, If I can I'm going to make it have a few mm between the console and the box. I don't like that it's that snug.

If there is that much interested here is what I'll do.

I'll use the extra material I have to refine my fitment make sure it's reasonable, and post new pics. Basically I want the center console to fit perfectly for you, I had to work at it to get everything back together just right. Then I'll put a few out and see what everyone thinks. If there is more interest I can take more orders.

Just to be upfront with everyone I'm traveling for work on Sunday and will be gone a week, so the earliest I'll be able to get started building these would be 3/10. Maybe sooner but realistically it would be that weekend. I'll get the second version made this week if there is interested which it seems like there is.

Once I've refined the design I'd sell them for $200, seems to be the going rate for an empty custom stealth box these days. I have no idea what shipping would be because I haven't weighed the box yet and I'd need your ZIP to calculate it.

If you are interested in me building you one of these send me a PM with your ZIP.

I'll need 5 people to be serious about it though, which it seems like there is already so just PM me and we'll work the deals. We can do Square Cash, Venmo, or PayPal. 50% down to cover materials and the balance before shipping. I prefer square cash but if you're more comfortable with Paypal that's fine.

The only other stipulations would be speaker type and that I can only guarantee it to fit the 2014 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with bucket seats and the Bose subwoofer. If you don't have that truck buy at your own risk. I imagine any 2014-2017 with bucket seats and the center console will have the space but I can't make any guarantees around that.

One additional note is that I did have to trim the bottom part of the dash, it looks like there were mounting points for plastic panels in the trucks that didn't have the center console. I couldn't tell from andreej's pictures but it looked like he did the same thing. If you look at my pics you can see the part that I trimmed just above the box. It serves no function in my truck and won't affect the structural integrity of the truck, or your ability to revert to the stock sub.

Only fits:

  • 2014 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with bucket seats and the Bose subwoofer
  • JL Audio 8W3v3-4 8" Subwoofer

Includes

  • Custom Box, glued and screwed.
  • Gold plated speaker terminal
  • Black Rubberized coating. (carpet won't fit)

I may update the design with brackets if the fitment requires it after I rebuild it.

P.S.

andreej, if you want first dibs on the sales, just say so, I don't want to step on your toes since you did this first. I just used your idea and guessed at the measurements. I don't know how to mention users without quoting so hopefully you see this.

I'll make a separate post with the people who have asked so far because I think there were already five. First come first serve an all.

Would you still be interested in making one of these boxes and shipping it to Alabama?

I also installed the 8" L7 custom box from Rodney's boxes. It is a step up from the Bose but not going to rock your windows. I had originally had the LC2i wired taped from the factory sub output but wasn't very happy with the factory bass roll-off and DSP mutilation so I swapped out the LC2i for a Nav TV M650-GM canbus converter. It is much more expensive but the sound is way better with a distortion free RCA preamp signal.

Or you could do what I did - Sub floor mounted 2.5 cu ft subwoofer box, Alpine Type-R 15", uses a minimum of under seat storage area.

The box fit right in front of the fuel tank and after covering it with fiberglass and undercoating it looks almost OEM (and you only see it if you crawl under the truck).

Obviously a major fab job including cutting a 12" square hole in the floor but I thought someone might find it interesting.

(hole was framed with 1/4" steel and is much stiffer even with no box mounting than the original 20awg flat steel in this area. Upper and lower box sandwich the frame and clamped with 12 bolts).

Sounds awesome and will massage your brain out if you put on rap music. Funny thing is I'm all about hi fidelity and usually listen to light jazz, but I tend to get carried away with things.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
