That definitely looks dark looking in but it does sure looks good. I'm tempted to do that myself.

With all this talk on tint and %'s, I am torn with what brands. I have herd a lot of good on 3M but the guy I spoke to said Solar Gard is the way to go.

What you say?

While I've heard there's brands to go for, the main thing you want to get is a ceramic based tint, as opposed to metallic. There's a few premium brands around, and if you go to a reputable shop, they'll likely carry one. This is just as much a service as a product, so to me, I want them to know what they're doing more than I care about the brand. That's just me though. There are a few tint forums where I heard about brands they don't even carry within 100 miles of me.

I guess I would say to me the brand don't matter. I just went to a tint Shop that has been around for a while and does good work. I also don't want my tint to bubble or fade and what not but that's why I went to a reputable shop. The place I went to gave me lifetime warranty on the tint through the company that made the tint. So I guess I can go to any Shop that does work with the tint and I can get it replace I believe.

Old thread from the near dead....

I made an appointment for 3m Crystalline on the front sides and full windshield.  California now allows 70% front sides and full windshield 90% with a doctor's authorization.  That's what I'm getting.  I haven't had skin cancer, but I have plenty of sun spots and have had some scabby areas on my left temple.  No more procrastinating on the UV protection.  Don't care about dark.  I have enough trouble seeing at night.

I'm interested in how your windshield turns out...in particular, how it blocks heat. That will be hard to tell for a while though since we're cooling down now. Where are you getting yours done? I'm near Encino, CA, so maybe we're near each other.

Almost all the Ceramic tint will block the heat.  Remember though, if the truck sits all day in the sun, no matter tint or not, its gonna be hot inside. Ill always have my future vehicles tinted entirely.

Definitely check state/local laws/vehicle-codes. If you're in a state like CA, you can tint the fronts, BUT you will not notice much of a difference, to the extent of obeying the law. When I got stationed at Edwards the first time, I moved from NM, where you could tint the front windows, CHP pulled me over to remove the tint (fix-it ticket). CA only allows a very lite tint in the fronts.

That's how I would love to tint the top of my windshield, but CA law says "top 4" of the windshield," that down to about the "AS1" mark on the side of the windshield.  :fume:  May just do it anyways, they haven't enforced it with my daughter's Cruze, was tinted that way, when we bought it.

I just did my strip 5% way past the AS1 line and haven't got any hassle over it. I've had my 5% all around on my single cab since early June and also no hassle. I'll take a picture of the windshield strip on as soon as the truck is out the shop.

No clue - but consider not going too dark - I went 35% on the front side windows and 15 or 20 on the back window.

Proved to be way too dark on the fronts - would have to roll down the windows to turn in the dark - for fear of running over a pedestrian. And the rear tint over the defrost grid made for an odd distracting reflection,,,,,,,,,, Have a new rig on order - and will leave the factory tint as is. Have a 2015 Outback and left it as is.......

We had a 2010 MINI tinted twice before a shop got it right - afterwards the windows always squeaked rolling up and down - Just say no to tint................

:nopity:

I just saw this today, the rolling down of the windows by another driver, and it wasn’t dark rather rainy though. I’m in the mountains a lot and don’t want to obscure my vision but.. to each his own.

Yeah, I want to limo-tint the top, bring it down even with the bottom of the Lane Departure Camera housing, and "cut it" parallel to the ground.  Otherwise, the bottom edge will look arched.
