Tint Question

To those of you with the brow on top of the windshield, how far down did you go? I had the guy come down just enough to cover those little black dots behind the rear view mirror, but then the outside edges ended up being pretty low. Still trying to get used to it. What have you done?

I got 35% on my front sides and it isn't that bad in the dark. I have 20% over the rear factory tint which is then similar to 5%, its definitely hard to see thru at night, but obviously this doesnt matter as Im not lookin out the backs constantly. 50% over the front windsheild, takes the glare out which is real nice. Sun doesnt beat on the dash like a furance on those summer highway trips.

I dont believe the factory tint does much, if anything, regarding heat rejection. The price sounds reasonable for the front two. Make sure you are getting a high performance tint for maximum heat rejection.

Someone mentioned tint doesnt make a big impact on heat, I must disagree! Yes - your truck will still be really hot when you get in it. Heres the difference - drive north on a road with sun on your west side on a summer day so its shining onto you, have the window up, then roll it down, guarantee youll notice a fairly big difference!!

PS if someone says they'll tint 4 sides plus rear for like $300 their likely a hack. I see this all the time on this facebook group im on.

I went 35 over stock front tint. It's very slightly lighter than the rear. It's calculated to be 26% combined with the 75% factory and the 35% overlay. .75x.35=.26. Remove the decimal point and that's your percent.

My old truck I matched the back and it was VERY dark. The guy layed 18% over the factory 75%. I thought he would have done it to match when scanned. Cop said it was 13% up front. I laughed and said "I thought it was 18, ****ing guy lied to me" he threw me a ticket. Kept them on and just payed the fine.

35 over the front stock looks great with black interior

lol I have 30% on my entire windshield and 5% all around on remaining windows Not too dark and great privacy and heat rejection

I believe any time there's an accident and one of the drivers has beer on his breath, it's automatically his fault. And I believe a tinted windshield could the same blame game. But to each his own.

There are some marks on the outside edges, I believe that's the legal tint line.

I now have had 3 different brows done (hated 1st one, got 2nd one done, then wrecked and had to get a 3rd done). My 1st brow was curved (followed natural curve of windshield) and just down to the AS1 line, I hated it. Did nothing for me and looked weird cause it wasn't enough tint. My 2nd one was straight across (computer cut) down to the AS1 line. More effective but looked dumb. My 3rd and current one is the best of the 3 IMO. I sat in the truck while the tint guy laid it on the outside of the windshield so I could choose where I wanted it. Mine covers black dots and is below where the AS1 line would be. It's curved as well. It takes some time to get used to but it sure is nice to have IMO.

Yes, I'm familiar with the AS1 line. I've never paid much attention to that, haha.

Thanks for the reply. Your third (and current) one sounds just like mine. I did the same thing. When I was sitting in the truck, I told him how low I wanted it. But, then I realized that it wasn't covering the black dots, so I had him go a bit lower. With the curve, the edges ended up being quite a ways below the AS1 line. The edges are quite a bit lower than my previous trucks (probably because the windshield is shaped much differently), but I'm starting to get used to it. I actually considered getting a computer cut (straight) one, but going about an inch below the black dots. Why did your straight one look dumb? Do you think you would have liked it if it was lower?

I love my tinted windows. In the audi and benz I did 35% and could barely tell it was tinted. Regretted going that low. Now I have the shop match the factory rears. As for UV protection, never heard that before but who knows. On the truck, I believe I have 17% on the front to "match" the rear. On the Jeep we did 15% to match the rear. Love the uniformity of the look. In a dark garage I end up rolling the windows down to see better backing up but not 100% necessary.

Definitely check state/local laws/vehicle-codes. If you're in a state like CA, you can tint the fronts, BUT you will not notice much of a difference, to the extent of obeying the law. When I got stationed at Edwards the first time, I moved from NM, where you could tint the front windows, CHP pulled me over to remove the tint (fix-it ticket). CA only allows a very lite tint in the fronts.

50% tint is not to dark but how dark does the other 5% tint make it look? I currently have my 2016 Silverado regular cab 5% rear window and 25% on the 2 doors and I'm really wanting to go 5% all around with like a 50% or even 35% on the windshield. It would be nice if you can upload a picture from your hood looking in to see how dark it looks. Thanks

Finally got around to taking a couple pictures.

Drent I like the side tint on your windows. With so much state police presence here they will definitely stop you for the front windshield tint. Seems like it is too far below the AS1 mark on the glass.
