2014 CPO rust

Hello!

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with GM covering minor rust spots with a certified preowned vehicle? Bought the truck in August and came with a 12 month 12k bumper to bumper. I have about 1,000 miles left on that. Washed the truck today after a long dirty Michigan winter and noticed some rust spots. Not sure if the pics will show it great or not.

Thanks!

I recall a thread talking about those little rust spots. People said it was caused by brake dust and can be cleaned off.

I need to check mine out. I'd seen some black specs on my truck after a car wash but hadn't looked closely. I just figured I hadn't cleaned well enough and thought they were black tar spots from the road or just from not cleaning it well enough.

i had some on my hood... clay bard them off... the detail took me 5 hours..... wash...dry, clay, polish, wax.... and several brews!

Lol. That's just rail dust. It happens all the time. Just needs a good washing and use a clay bar. Keep that in your washing techniques. A vehicle should be clay barred about twice a year to keep up on maintenance. Kind of like an oil change. It won't harm anything with henproper use. Just to remove overspray, contamination, fallout and rail dust.

Yep I had those same spots on my white truck.it's not rust. They are a pain to get off. Mine was the worst bottom of rear quarter panels and tailgate. Clay bar or wheel cleaner. That's one thing I don't miss about my white truck. Good luck.

It actually is rust. It's just the metallic specs that stick to the paint and they start to rust. It won't affect the paint at all. Just an eye sore till it's clayed.

Rail dust it a generic term for those metal spec's but it not really from rails to any great extent. All vehicles in the rust belt will have them, they just show up on light colored vehicles. The roads are full of fine metal debris from snow plows, steel reinforcing on concrete highways, steel bridges, steel guard rails etc. Cannot be avoided.

Dealership just called back and they confirmed that it needs to be clay barred. They might do it for me, he was not sure how the CPO warranty worked. He said they usually only cover it for 12 months or 12,000 miles from the original purchase but was going to talk to the warranty lady.

I'm not sure if I'd let a dealer clay bar my vehicle. The guys who perform this work are most likely high school students and have as much skill with a clay bar as rebuilding a transmission.

You'll get that every year on every vehicle. If you wash your vehicle often in the winter you can prevent this.

A useful non complaint post, nice! Not many people have experience or training in clay bar use and techniques (though it is hard to mess up). Chances are the OP, you and most others have as much training on a clay bar as rebuilding transmissions...
