Oil change today

Just got my oil done at the dealer today. Truck had 67945 on it when I went in for the oil change. But on the sticker he put on my windshield for the approximent next oil change he put 67435?? I'm quessing he put the wrong mileage down for the next oil change?? What's the recommended mileage between oils changes? They used the synthetic oil.

Some will say go by the oil life monitor, some say anything from 5000 - 7500. There are still a few die hards that stick with 3000 miles. Go with what feels best to you. More people spend more on a meal out on a Saturday night than it costs for an oil change. Personally, I do the 5000-6000 thing, but that doesn't mean it couldn't go longer. That is my comfort zone. When someone else starts paying for the oil changes, then they will have standing to make a determination that I am wrong. And I don't fall for the "changing too soon is a waste" line of bull. Used oil is re-refined and recycled or used on a wide variety of other applications. There is no such thing as wasting oil.

Synthetics tend to hold up best, but any oil, there will still be wear metals and such that build up in the oil as it is used. Synthetic blends work just fine also clear up to the length of the oil life monitor.

There are still dealers out there that do 3000 miles and some will do 5000 miles and some will just put 6 months from then. There is no set millage that you do it at anymore that is the industry standard.

Most don't care about the timing of the free changes, once you're done, you're done. If you want them done once a week, no problem...you already paid for them.

With that said, as previously mentioned; whatever gives you a warm and fuzzy.

Yup, just messed it up. The last time I got mine changed they had the next interval for 20k miles. Just a typo.

On another note, that's the last time a dealer does an oil change for me. It's way cheaper to do it myself.

It was $47.50 for the oil change with the synthetic oil and they rotated the tires and did the full insp on the tires brakes ect.

All good suggestions. Most like to keep it simple and change oil every 5k as well as rotate tires at that same time. Easy to remember the mileage once you set it at 5k intervals like 50, 55, 60 65. IRK, the OLM is set to go to 7,500 miles. That works as well for both oil changes and tire rotations. Basically use the KIS method, (keep it simple).

How many miles can I expect to go between oil changes when using this system?
The beauty of the GM Oil Life Monitor System is that it will automatically adjust the oil change interval based engine characteristics, driving habits and the climate in which the vehicle is operated. For instance, mild highway driving in a warm climate will maximize the interval between oil changes. Depending on the vehicle, this could be in excess of 7000 miles and as high as 12,000 miles. On the other hand, short trip driving in cold a climate may limit the oil change to 3000 miles or less. In general, most people that drive a combination of city and highway schedules find that the GM Oil Life Monitor System will indicate an oil change every 7500 to 8500 miles.

I was under the impression from several at the dealership that GM pretty much set the OLM on our trucks to click down to 0% and be at 7,500 miles. Acording to our OLM on our 16 Suburban that is the case since we are down to just about 0% and it is almost at 7,500 miles. This is with a nice long 14hr drive to New Orleans and back and the rest of the driving around here being short 10 mile runs.

I know the OLM on our Acadia was set to 5k. No matter how we drive. All around here short trips, or when we made our trips up to Pa. to visit my mom. It always was at 5k when the OLM was down to 0% and was that way from new until we sold it with 92k miles on it.

Not having my previous truck's maintenance I'm only guessing @ the kilometres, but 7,500 miles converts to a hair over 12,000 klicks, which if my memory serves me right, seems close to what I was seeing.

I do remember that from my 2000 3/4 to the '04 3/4, that GM "upped" the interval.

The OLM is pretty good, but it does have limitations for it's usefulness. If one happens to operate their vehicle in very dusty conditions, the OLM has no "dust sensor" to determine that. Now granted, the air filter should keep that from entering the engine, but silicon levels probably will be elevated in the oil nonetheless, and that will be "grinding away" at the internals. So one has to use a dose of common sense if they are going to live by the OLM thing. It is geared for average scenarios. If your stuff falls outside of average and clearly into the severe service category, probably wise to ignore the OLM and go with a interval that helps you sleep at night.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
