2017 strange options

I am in a 2017 loaner while my 2016 is at the dealer for hopefully fixing the crappy 8 speed shifting and other issues plaguing these trucks, and I am in a 2017 SLT. I find it weird, it's fully loaded but has incandescent turn signals instead of LED, it has the LED tail lights though. It also shifts so much smoother than my 8 speed, I almost feel like it has a 6 speed.

In the manual shifting it only goes up to 6th gear but I've never had to use mine for more than the first few gears so I never knew if you can go all the way up to 8 in manual mode. Hoping to see if anybody can explain that for me, I've never seen an SLT with incandescent turn signals on a 2016+

I almost hate to jump in here because some sales rep will correct me, but I think the SLT has certain stuff, then's there the "premium" package which adds the running boards and a couple of things and then there's the "premium plus" package which adds the nice headlights. Those headlights are also part of the AT package. This is a 2017 package thing, wasn't true in prior years.

Thanks for the reply, I figured maybe they were part of a package now that's interesting. My 16 is an AT but all the 16 SLTs had the LED turn signals that I saw. This loaner has everything though so that surprises me. Now just have to figure out the transmission question I had, this loaner shifts wayyy better than my 8 speed.

That's why it shifts better than your truck....2 less times to clunk.

The 6 speeds are perfectly fine it's just the way they programmed the 8 speeds that makes it down shift poorly

I drove a 17 loaner the other day too. I found the transmission to be smoother but I never checked to see if it was a 6 or 8 speed because I thought they were done with the 6 speeds.

I did find that it was very slow off the line. I would press the gas and say to myself ' let's go already'. Had to give it a lot more gas to accelerate at what I thought was normal. Not racey or jack rabbit start just normal.

Got back in my truck and it felt much more peppy all around. It was a 300 mile vehicle though so maybe that was it. Definitely smoother though

What are they trying with your 2016 8 speed to correct shifting?

You were driving a 6 speed then. It is much smoother but so much more sluggish than the 8. Huge difference. They checked for an update and mine had the most up to date software, it honestly has smoothed out nicely it only is annoying down shifting from 2-1 in slow traffic

Owner of a new 2017 SLT here - Mine came loaded with running boards, LED headlights, etc. Also has the 6 speed. It's never been sluggish off the line, but any time I go to pass someone, it doesn't take much throttle at all to run around them!

traded my 14 for a 17. shifts smoother but at 50 thru 70 at light throttle it stutters bad. dealer told me it is due to the way they wrote the tune, to lean it out and get best MPG, feels a bit like pre detonation. I am gonna get a tuner and fix it, Black Bear Performance

I've experienced this a few times, like it's trying to bounce back and forth between 4 / 8 cyl. I wonder if varying octane #'s would affect this?

I tried higher octane, no luck. just seems to stutter. not trying to go V4, i think...but i may disable it.
