So, took my 2017 Sierra To the local exhaust shop told them I wanted something that sounds good but nothing loud. So we agreed on basically a flow master muffler with duel exhaust. $400 out the door. Seemed fine, got the truck back and it sounds great to me. The wife on the other hand absolutely does not like it. Considering she bought the truck for me, I have "thought" about going back and just redoing everything to a single pipe.

My question is how much of a difference will that make??

A lot of guys with picky wives swear by the borla touring. It's just as quiet as stock until you put your foot all the way in. hope this helps!

Skully I assume they put on a 40 Series 430402 one inlet dual outlet muffler with 2.5 inch tailpipes. Case length of that muffler is 14 IIRC and it sounds aggressive and droans considerably. You are going to want them to replace muffler with Borla Pro XS 40349, Magnaflow 12288 or the larger 12588, or Dynomax Super Turbo 17776. These mufflers have longer cases and will be noticeably quieter than the 40 series Dronemaster.

I'm running the Magnaflow referenced below (part #12288). I love it - has a really nice rumble at the cold start and sounds great when you get on it. On the highway cruising at 65-70 mph, sounds just a volume notch above stock, practically imperceptible. HOWEVER, I do have the AFM turned off. With AFM, the drone at 45-55 mph was pretty bad and I just generally disliked the V4 note. With the AFM off, I have the exact sounds I was hoping for. For the record, no wife here to please but I do have 2 kids. My 14 year old son can tell the difference at startup and hard acceleration, my daughter doesn't see any difference. They complained significantly when I had my Durango, which was, admittedly, pretty loud. If you're curious about that beast take a listen!

That being said, could I just swap the mufflers out or am I going to have to do a whole new system??

Try dynamat on the rear wall, floor and doors. Made a big difference in my truck and I've only done the back wall and rear floor as of now

Take her ride when you go out together. My wife put up with loud mufflers for 20 years. Then she got a Z28, problem solved. Going on 43 years now.

Yes, you should be able to swap out the muffler.

Just swap mufflers should be good.

So just got back from taking the wife and little tot to get some ice cream. I noticed something and maybe someone can help me out with it. So for example at 50mph my truck goes for v8 to v4 and there is a terrible drone like sound. Anyone ever heard of this or had this issue??

Everyone who's put an exhaust on one of these trucks. You can either turn off AFM, or spend the money on an exhaust that won't drone such as Corsa, or leave the flapper valve intact.

Skully any exhaust will do the "V4 chop" but Flowmaster is more noticeable than the others. Go back to the shop and have them swap mufflers. If you are like me and afraid to lose warranty than drive in M7 or M5 to 60 or so. My V4 chop is hardly noticeable even when in regular drive but then I do have the factory resonator still on truck.
