clay bar kits/detailing

When it starts to feel like glass, then the claybar has done it's job. I don't think you're supposed to see anything overly dramatic in the clay (at least I never have).

 

I work a small 5x5 or so area at a time, making sure to keep the it wet with QD spray or the like. I fold in the clay bar and expose a fresh surface as I move to the next area.

 

 

yea thats what iv been doing but the youtube videos iv seen all of them show the clay bar get dark smudges on them it does eventually feel like glass

I always figure it's just because they still have other crud on the paint that should've ordinarily washed away.

 

Granted, I'll see a little spot here and there but I give my truck/car a good washing before I clay so maybe that's why there usually isn't a lot of black smudges on there.

true i did wash my truck with dish soap twice immediately before using the clay bar i just figure since iv always seen dark smudges on the videos and in the directions and since its the hood/front end i would seem some but as long as its working I'm happy i can tell a difference its a lot more shiny

Just clayed, polished, and waxed mine the other day. Clay will do a nice job cleaning it up after the winter.

Meguiar's or Mother's is what I'd use. I would clay it before waxing the truck to get out all the crap that's embedded in your paint. Waxing over it will just seal all that stuff in.

 

i ended up going with the mother clay bar meguires professional polish #7 and professional wax #26 I'm about to start the process

its really a matter of how beat up the paint is. Sounds like you were doing a good job keeping it clean before. Well done.

does it also take out all those swirl marks/scrathes ?or should i get compound for that ? the swirl marks are for my dads car its a 2006

It won't remove swirls or scratches. Only surface contaminants.

It just depends on what is stuck on the paint. Someone could have painted close by and it's all clear coat overspray. You never really know. As long as it's smooth like glass, the clay bar and yourself are doing the job right.

yea they porbably don't wash the cars before so it looks like the clay bar is taking a lot more off then it should

Anyone who clays for the first time is amazed at the crap that they take off of what they tought was a clean car or truck. I have had several people look at me like I am an idiot when I tell them to rub their car with this piece of clay. I will admit I was very sceptical before I did it for the first time too.

 

But that smooth as a babies butt feel is something to behold! ahahaha

The one you listed does a pretty good job, that's the first clay bar I ever used, does make a big difference before and after. I use Adams Polishes now. Top Notch stuff, sure they're might better better stuff out there. But, I really like Adam's. The videos and forums are really helpful!

I have a white 2016 with 8000 miles. Wash regularly. I could feel that the paint wasn't free of something, even as I couldn't see anything.

 

Decided to buy a Meguires kit. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING what comes off into the white clay and then how perfectly smooth the paint now is.

 

Top off with a little wax....

I started with the Mothers kit, I clayed a Yukon multiple times, A hyndai Sonata muliple times and a Mercedes CLK multiple times before the having to change out the bar.

When the dirt shows up just fold it into the bar and start with a clean side, When there are no clean sides left use it on the rims you will be suprised at the dirt lifted from there.

I have since got some Griots garage clay and it is good stuff.

Chemical guys are all good just watch for the fine, medium descriptions. Fine is for the paint.
