I have a 1500 double cab std bed. How much larger could I go, out of curiosity?

I studied this to death before my 12,500 mile trip around the US towing my trailer. 2015 Silverado with 3:42 and 5.3. Only tank I could find was from Titan? I think. It fit in the corner of the bed and you needed a transfer pump to pump into main tank. I talked to them and they advised it was due to our friend the EPA or one of those lovely agencies. Took 5 gal can and strapped in bed for emergency. Never used it till I got home Avg 12.5 on total trip. Old men like me need to stop and pee so it worked out.

Ive been talking about the tank with my fab shop, they are going to build me a tank about 4 inches thick and will be bolted on the front of the bed, low profile and im getting it rhino lined to match my bed, i dont know yet if im doing a pump or let gravity do the work and let it dump into the filler tube somewhere half way. By my measurements it will hold approximately 20gallons. I have july 10th as my appointment date with the fab shop. Hope it looks nice!! Il probably post a thread about it once its all done

Also if anyone has a brand of fittings they like the most, i will need fittings and hose to hook it up to the oem gas tank

Just thinking and I could be wrong but the systems are sealed and will pull a vacuum on start up to make sure no small leaks. If detected will trip the Check engine light. If it's closed during driving and opened to drain fuel when stopped might have something. I tried to get one made but they where to worried about liability. Good luck and take some pics

I have a 2015 double cab standard bed and wouldn't mind upgrading the tank to something a big larger.

I average more than that on the highway but I have a 5.3L with 3.42 gears, intake tube and chopped half the exhaust off. I normally run a tonneau cover but recently removed it, removed my tailgate and put a cargo net in the rear. Saw an increase of another 1.5mpgs on the highway from that. That's with a 3in front lift spacer, 20x9.5(0 offset) and 33.5in tires.

I thought someone would have figured this out by now. I have been looking for two years because 200 miles per tank when towing a rv is just sad and annoying. Someone please!!!!!!......help

It's another good reason to tow the rv with a HD - which will have the larger tank.

 

And I agree that the 200 mile range sucks with the 1500 -- I've done Great Lakes area to Phoenix area towing an enclosed trailer and newer getting mileage more than single digits.

 

We found some places we couldn't even use the 200 miles, because of the way station locations worked out.

So i didnt go the fab way and decided on the 37gal tank from tractor supply, bought the DeeZee plumbing (only for diesels) so i just need to fab a small tube with the thread for the fitting. I also bought the dee zee lockable vented gas cap. It will work out of gravity, theres only a valve that i need to open and let gravity fill up the tank. 

 

If its true about the vaccum i should still be fine as long as a i keep the valve closed during startup and during driving. I will have the setup ready in about two weeks and i will let you guys know whats up. I hope it works!

I have been digging into this over the past couple of days and I have determined the only way to do this for the newer styles, is to build one from scratch with some kind of transfer pump or gravity feed kit, like the one pictured below. The reason behind this is the EPA and evaporation and gas leaking and blah blah blah, but also the fact that the flash point and combustion temp are much much lower for gasoline than it is for diesel. So for the time being from what I've seen, and please correct me if I'm wrong, it is either buy a diesel tank and hope for the best or have one fabricated yourself, or the final option we will have to live with our Miata sized gas tanks for the foreseeable future.
