Tow Hook Lights

hey guys

so one of the things i've wanted to add to my truck since i got it was some LEDs to illuminate the tow hooks - my old truck had after market driving/fog/marker lights and i always like how the little blue marker lights looked at night

here's my other truck with the blue marker lights in the lower valance...

so i'm trying to decide if i should go blue or white. i LOVE the look of the blue, but i can soooo see myself getting pulled over by the rcmp for having blue lights on my truck... becuz... you know... someone might mistake a 2014 black silverado with 7.5" of lift and 35" mud tires for a police vehicle!

so here are a few pics of the LEDs just sort of wedged into the opening and running off a 12v battery

first the blue:

and then the white

I like the blue, it gives it a little something, but due to the reason you stated, probably not a good idea, but you can always find out.. :D

I've seen white LED with a tint of blue, not bright white, kind of soft white. Those look nice as well.

I had some green LED on the front of my Traiblazer(around the lights) and all these cops(State patrol, local cops) would just look at me funny and keep going. I drove by a military base(shot cut to get to my work), and the MP was out there patrolling the perimeter roads and pulled me over and was quoting some code about not having green lights, blah, blah, blah and told me the State Patrols and locals cops don't know the rules etc. and told me I had to take them off.. I didn't take them off.. :driving:

I would pick white as well. It just looks better.

I think every state in the US also has laws against any blue lights on cars. Granted yours would be pretty dim, but some cop having a bad day could still write a ticket if he wanted to.

thanks guys

How about AMBER ???

i thought of that, but one of the things i'll be doing this summer is replacing the amber markers in the head lights with clear markers - so i don't really want to add more amber (and since the headlights will be apart anyways... at the same time as i put in clear markers i'll be adding halos - just cuz!)

as much as i love the blue i'll likely do the smart thing and do white.

This is the modification some of us never knew we needed. I can live without it but illuminated tow hook openings makes sense. (Kind of raptor-y)

White for sure, but will that give you 4 functioning fog lights? If you can wire it to have them on with the high beams you will have the modern version of the "Family Truckster" from the first Vacation movie.

^^ha! ha! the family truckster.... maybe i should add some wood paneling to the side of the truck! :)

when i mount them they will be pointing down, not forwards, so not really 4 fogs.... and these LED's don't throw very much light

Wood paneling, and metallic "pee" green paint. You think you hate it now, wait till you drive it!!!! if you can all 8 working at once, just think of the surprise when you flash someone with their high beams on approaching you.

I just think the "blue" looks too purple; could be the picture. You're right about getting pulled over with that though. I guess that leaves my choice as white, but I don't even love that either (sorry, just my opinion).

Your "Blue" looks purple, that might just be the pic. Im a huge fan of blue and that would be my choice. but The white looks better just cause that "blue" looks purple. My opinion would be run the blue and if you get stopped right away change to the white. It seems like this is a simple installation.
