So I have a 15' denali with 6.2l. I have been noticing more and more when I look at it the front end really comes down

 

I want to do a 2.5 leveling kit but feel I may need to do more in the front to "level" it out.

Add a couple inches to the front end and that should be good, unless you just want to get a straight up lift kit. I added the bilstein struts up front to my 14 on the 1.85" lift setting and I constantly debate on adding a leaf to get some of the rake back because the front is so high.

That's how trucks sit. A 2" level in the front will have it looking good. 2.5 and up start to put a lot of stress on the ball joints.

2.5' will over level you and you will be nose high. 2 inches should be perfect.

are you saying only 2.5" front?

because i want to bring the whole truck up 2.5" plus level the front... so i am thinking of doing a 1.5" rear and 2.5" front. that way i bring the front up an inch to maybe make it closer to "level" to the rear

You should read some of the other threads on leveling and lifts on this forum. There is a lot of reading, but spending the time now can save you a lot of money. If you don't want to take the time then I highly recommend you take the advice offered of getting a 2" level. (1.5 is even better, imo). Your truck will appear level, maintain its current ride qualities and is not expensive. FYI, You will need an alignment following any modification to the suspension.

No. I am saying leave the rear stock and go 2 inches in the front. You wanted per your original post to level it out.

Start to? A 2 inch does the same thing (add stress) just a little less than a 2.5. Anything over stock adds stress, the higher you go the more stress is added. A 1.5 adds stress, not as much as a 2 or 2.5 but it adds stress none the less...

Any level will add some stress, but it seems like the guys who did the 2.5 over the 2 kill ball joints much faster. You can read it in the leveling kit thread. I'm not saying it won't add extra stress, just not as much.

I just did 1.5" spacers under my front shocks yesterday (went with Motofab), very easy to do and I now only have a 1" rake instead of almost a 3" rake prior. Other than the nose riding higher I haven't really noticed any difference in the way the truck drives....Getting my alignment in a few day's.

Or we could load you up like a job site truck and you'll have 750Lbs in the bed constantly. Then hook up a trailer to it. That'll level you right on out.... Being seriously, the 4WD trucks have a better stance than the 2wd trucks. the 2 wheelers look nose low.

so then to add another factor to this boys... if i wanted to do a 2" overall lift while keeping the front level with the rear with 2" lift.. i am looking at a 4" front lift?

 

now with the denali i feel that maybe i may not want to adjust my shocks and such because then i will loose ride quality. i feel like i put myself in a crappy situation to really lift this vehicle while keeping the factory ride quality.

i want to be able to do 35' with 22's is my goal. i also want the truck to sit even

to do 35's i have seen guys going with the 2.5" lift and rubs a little. so will 35's fit with 1" rear lift?

No. 4 in the front and two out back. Not gonna happen. You could do 2in in the front and then a 2" body lift, but 35" you might as well do a Magnetic Ride Control compliant 6" lift and be done with it. I've seen the HD trucks fit 35" with a level. but the most on a leveled 1/2 ton I've seen fit good was a 33"

Could you leave the front alone - and shackle the back to level it and not lose ride quality on mag ride?

    • Thanks - I wasn't quite caffeinated this morning. 2:1 makes sense, turning the crankshaft 360 degrees will turn the cam 180 degrees, and had I done that, the cam's dot would be at 6 and the crank's at 12 again.   I went ahead and took the sprocket off anyway, aligned everything dot-to-dot including the balance shaft just for s&g. I'm glad I did because I discovered no Loctite on the timing sprocket bolts. Maybe it's not required, but at only 20 ft-lb torque spec, those bolts aren't in there very tight. Cleaned and reassembled with some thread locker and torqued.   A general observation: Less is more with RTV. If a little doesn't stop a leak, a LOT probably won't, either. RTV is thinly veiled revenge, in a tube...      
    • The timing marks are ok, that is #1, you can turn it over until they line up and it won't change anything, the crankshaft turns twice for every camshaft revolution, I have always set up SB Chevs as your pic shows using a straight edge
    • Someone's been here before.... There is a receipt for a 3-piece timing set, purchased earlier this year.   Is this picture something, or, nothing?   I have the timing cover off and my crank is perfectly TDC and the keyed gear's locating mark is dead on 12 o'clock.   The cam gear locating mark is also at 12 o'clock. Now, I'm not an expert, but all the install guides say the two locating marks should meet and be perfectly aligned when installing a timing set. The mark on the crank should be dead on 12:00 and the cam gear's mark should be dead on 6:00, and both marks should be perfectly vertically aligned.   I believe the timing gear is keyed or has a dowel that ensures it can only be installed on the cam in one position, so I have to believe the cam is out of phase somehow. At the very least, with a triangular bolt pattern, it can only be installed in one of 3 different positions.   Before I pulled the front cover, the truck was running alright, no service engine soon lights except an occasional P0172 / rich condition. Timing -16 timing at idle (should be +16), and total -35% fuel trim, two conditions I haven't been able to figure out.   In related news, my injector tested pretty well, wasn't leaking, but I had it rebuilt anyway, and it's on it's way back to me.         Along with this discovery, the good and bad:   Good: The oil pan seal appears undamaged.   Bad: -The timing cover has been reused, and the positioning dowels have been broken. That could explain some of the leaking. -Some kind of white paste or grease was used to try to seal the oil pan seal and timing cover (since wiped off..). -Then, someone globbed silicone all over the front of the cover and also buried the ckp sensor in it. But, they didn't put any inside the cover or use RTV to try to seal the oil pan seal with the timing cover (good).
    • The guy that owns K&P filters last I checked in with him has over 300,000 miles on his Dodge base Hemi using his own 35 micron absolute stainless mesh filter from its first oil change.    The GM study I've posted a dozen times shows the relationship in engine life based in multiples of base units, not miles or years. That is the base unit is the number of miles the motor ran using the reference filter efficiency.    The above two paragraphs dismantle anecdotal arguments IF one changes oil often enough to prevent particle formation and the motor is in otherwise good shape. That is not full of silica (no air filter) or suffering a metallurgical issue that is not part of the lubrication discussion. Poor heat treat in example.   Data from UOA's I've reviewed from more than a few engines can show remarkably broad variations in oil cleanliness using the exact same filter over the course of an engines life.     Lastly there is the common sense of it. Wear debris WILL circulate the engine BEFORE it ever sees a filter in route to that filter and WILL harm the pump which NEVER sees filtered oil.    Alpha question then becomes, given the facts, how long do you believe is a reasonable service life from a vehicle you are certain you will not pass down? That is the junk yard will be it's resting place when you're done with it? (the moral issue most don't care about).    Omega question is then how diligent are you prepared to be in general mechanical, air & oil maintenance? Preventing particulates and keeping them sufficiently dilute; preventing the precursors from generation, amalgamation and precipitation.    If I get a good look at the engine bay of a vehicle I have a fair idea of the owners commitment to the inside of the power train. That 30 micron WIX is still more efficient than a sieve.                 
    • It also depends on what criteria someone is using for “best” when talking filters.  Are we going off best efficiency?   Best quality/QC?  Etc. because the two may not mutually exclusive.
