6.0 engines are completely bulletproof. Buy with confidence.

Good to hear. I know I complained about gas mileage but dependability is more important to me. I can handle 1-2 lower mpg for something that I won't have to worry about other than regular maintenance.

It will be more like 4-5 MPG lower with the 6.0 vs the 5.3L.

Are 2013's any better with AFM than 2007-2012? Or are they all about the same.... ?

Bought my 2012 with 41k and AFM on. I turned it off around 42k. No oil use before and none after turning off. Truck runs pretty good. I still want more truck though as towing can seem like a chore in hilly areas which is mostly what I have. Nothing too significant but enough to need 4th gear to maintain 55-60

Damn.......

The 6.0 is made to work, not to get pretty miles :)

I get 13-14 MPG around town, 6.0 6500-lb truck, can get 15-16 on the highway if I use the cruise around 65-70.

Tires make a huge difference - get the right tire like the Michelin LTX MX/2 and you'd probably see a 1-2 MPG gain. For me, I want maximum bad weather performance and some off-road capability, so I use Duratracs, which probably costs me a bit on mileage as well.

If I cared about mileage I'd be driving a Volt or a Prius.

Just drove my friend's 2011 5.3 chevy 1500 last weekend pulling a 20' car hauler-type trailer, 2 rzr 1000's, and gear. It pulled very well and I love how the trans shifts so seamlessly even when pulling something. Didn't seem to have any lack of power (shocking to say as I am used to a diesel) and was very comfortable to me.

His has 150k miles and the AFM is still active, yet he has never had an issue with oil consumption. I know this topic has been beat to death, but how is it that some 5.3's are getting past this issue with no modifications, while others can't get away from it?

A regular dose of clean synthetic oil of the proper viscosity and at the proper level?

I had an '09 tahoe with the 5.3....towed a~4500lb boat all the time. I never had any afm or oil issues, honestly never noticed the afm. It had 3.08 gears and left a bit to be desired when towing, but otherwise ran well.

Our 08 Tahoe also didn't have any AFM or oil consumption issues. Didn't keep it long enough to see any long term effects

I had mine for almost 4 years and about 50,000 miles. It was a good truck to me. I had a power lock issue on the rear door and a rear wheel speed sensor. The speed sensor messed with traction control and ABS. It was $17 and took 3 minutes to fix. The lock was ~$100, took 20-30 minutes to replace that. Only two issues I recall having.

I would look for a 2009-2013 6.2L truck. As mentioned the new 6-spd transmission is great.

Early 2007 trucks are the older bodystyle. 2007.5-2013 AFM 5.3L's are a hit & miss game. You could buy a 5.3L truck, have the PCM tune out the AFM & tune down some of the torque management (free up HP). A tech could also install a better non-AFM camshaft & add better roller lifters too.

Leather seat covers were standard on the GMC SLT & Chevy LTZ trim levels, but a great option on the GMC SLE & Chevy LT. I highly recommend the leather- Better resale & the cloth seats attract lint/hair from other planets on the cloth trucks!!! Worst cloth seats I've ever experienced in an automobile (I've been driving various vehicles since 1988).

Good luck.

It truly does seem like a game of Battleship with the 5.3's.... though I see so many of these trucks running around!

Good point on the cloth seats from my 2007. It was nasty how much lint they attracted.

They changed the seats (they do not hold lint like the 07-08 or 09) later on. My 2010 has better cloth seats than our 08 Tahoe did
