What do you keep in your truck?

One really shouldn't. I'm retired LEO and Texas had determined that 60% of illegal guns used in crimes were determined to be stolen from vehicles and on top of that most of those were open vehicles! So over 50% of the guns criminals have were from legal owners cars. There is a custom fit gun safe that fits perfectly in our huge console, is bolted in, and under 300 dollars. That ios the way to go if one wants to leave it in their truck, otherswise the odds are against you for not having an issue eventually.

Here in Florida they were hitting all the Police cars for weapons. Police officers here can take their car home. Many departments now have a policy to remove weapons from the car after work. There was a case where teenagers stole a gun from a police car and he accidentally killed his friend playing with the gun. He explained the car was open. They brought charges against the PO.

Outstanding advice

just get your CCW and never leave a weapon unattended.

You do otherwise maybe:

1. You suck at handling and IA procedures

2. You can't acquire a target and fire accurately under duress

3. You shoot nothing but static paper and call it a day

Carry and using a weapon is a persishable skill. You don't train you die...worse yet someone else besides the perpetrator

Stay safe

My static paper at least has a zombie on it, does that help?

Sometimes we play battleship too.

my picture/location is too descriptive so I am not going to really list what I keep in the truck. I will agree that people should not be leaving guns in vehicles though... only time I do that is when I am running into a bank or post office and then it goes right back on me when I get back to the truck.

Very true, owning a gun is not enough. Being comfortable with it, responsible, and proficient is what will save your life when the moment comes. Also I would like to mention a very specific part of the law using it. Here in Florida we are blessed to have a "stand your ground" law and the Castle Doctrine. Your home or car are easy with the castle doctrine, no duty to retreat under the law. BUT stand your ground has some limitations which have been tested in court and people are in jail from it. If you are threatened w/ immintent danger to life, you can address the threat immediately with deadly force. Done period. The problems come in where people go get their gun from the car or elsewhere. A gas station scenario is a good example. If you can go in your car you are not threatened and should retreat according to the law. If you are being robbed outside your car at a gas station and pull your weapon and kill the perpetrator, your all good, but going in your car will be an issue. Remember you are almost always on someones camera. There will be no convincing anyone of anything that is on camera.

**I'm not a lawyer or giving legal advice** be well versed in your states law, make no assumptions. Find out you were wrong prior not after.

Carrying on your person is best but there are several good reasons to have a truck safe.

1. you are traveling with family. ( hotel room not good.)

2. long trip want to be comfortable ( safe is best in case you forget it in vehicle.)

3. You arrive at a location you must enter that has a prohibition or it's against the law to carry there. i.e. Courthouse, post office, federal building, school. DO NOT go back to your car open the trunk and put your gun in there. Perps wait in those areas and watch for this knowing this. You will come out to a broken in vehicle and no gun. Responded to this many times.

Good luck, and be safe

well the most important thing i keep in my truck is my glock 17 with 17 round mag and a spare 33 round mag. Other secondary things Large knife, trailer hitch/ball, some tools to change the battery, pens, mileage log book, tmps relearn tool, flash light.

Future item is some type of short barrel ar-15.

I've got a big set of tools strapped in the bed. Can do about anything I need with it. I also keep my Diablo intune in the locked portion of the glove box for reading and codes that pop up. In the console I keep fishing real, extra 10mm and 9mm ammo, and hearing protection. Under the back seat is a fishing pole in a pvc pipe homemade rod holder and tackle box.

Do you guys have recommendations for a battery jump starter to keep in the truck for just in case situations? Something that will actually jump trucks.

I know amazon has several. Pretty sure the lithium ion ones are the way to go.

Texas CCW is easy. I have a non rez by reprociety. If they only had better surf. Aranases Pass might need a look. Been to most major cities. Wish Austin was by the water. That place is awesome. San Antone nice too. Galveston is horrible but gets a decent hurricane swell.

Come on down to Florida, CWP is a piece of cake and there's waves. East coast was pretty fun today. Woke my ass up at 4:30 AM to drive over there from Tampa.

Sounds about right for FL lol. Not sure if I'd rather run into a jewfish or a shark. I feel like there's a bad joke in there somewhere..
