well technically March....

It was the last week of Febuary 2017... I was looking at a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 and it was on sale for $48,799 and then the ad said as low as $47,799 If you had a GM card, Farm Bureau membership $500 off for each... My concern at the time was the short bed 5.5' and I was thinking it better to get the 6.5'... I didn't buy the truck as I still had a few other things to decide on. The car salesman told me that was the rock bottom price and there would be no wiggle room on the deal...

I kept looking at the truck online as the week went by and when March hit the price dropped another $3,000... and the new sale price was $45,799 with a as low as price of $44,799....

The truck was gone after a couple of days on there site... I still remember the car salesman telling me that was the rock bottom price and a week later on March 2nd the price dropped down to $44,799... And I've never seen a price anywhere near that since for the same model, engine, options...

I read that GM financials are not doing so good. I just bought a new Denali ultimate for 54.7plus TTL. Not a steal but 10k off MSRP...

Of course the salesman will tell you it's the lowest they can go. It's basically their job to talk you into buying no matter what, even if that means to lie. Not all will lie, but I wouldn't assume they all tell the truth 100% of the time. I tried being a salesman and I guess I was too honest and wasn't money hungry. If someone couldn't get what they wanted for the price they could afford I didn't even try to talk them into something cheaper because I'm picky and wouldn't want someone trying to talk me into something I wouldn't want.

I will mention that the best time to buy, especially if your credit may not be great, is the last week of the month. Banks are trying to reach a quota so that last week they will approve some deals that they normally wouldn't.

Also, at the local dealership I worked (which ironically was the same one I bought my '14 from) and as far as I know most other dealerships, the salesman only makes $100 per brand new vehicle they sale. But, they make the good money with used so keep that in mind also. I've seen some make a couple thousand one one used car deal. Either way, the deal still has to be approved by the sales manager so it's not up to the salesman, all they do is talk you into it. First they make you fall in love and then work out a deal.

Who pays advertised price? Always always always remember that salesman are highly trained to ensure you leave as much of your hard earned money within their walls. Offer them what you feel is a reasonable price, even if that means lowballing thousands of $$ below their advertised price....even if they come back with ASPCA puppy eyes, stories about how they are putting their 2 kids through college and that they are losing money on the deal and that they will be fired for selling it one penny less than what the advertised price...remember what i said about their training and don't bat an eye. Good luck in your search.

2017 Denali Ultimate MSRP $63217. $52556 out the door

From a dealer that last year would not give me $8000 off a 2016 yet in 2017 he gave me $13322 off sticker. $7000 of that were GM rebates.

GM is struggling.

I would expect heavy GM discounts soon as they try to unload the 2017.. they seem to do it every September. I'm sure GM will offer some percentage off msrp, but if you don't act fast selection will be limited.

MSRP should have been around 61k or 62k... I dont have the exact number... i just wrote down the sale prices... It was a 17 Denali, Crew Cab, short bed, with the 6.2L engine...

I can find 2017 SLT level Crew cabs with the 6.2l for 46K in August with the 18s on the way...

just seems backwards to me still to have seen the best prices in feb and march = )

In the last two months, I've gotten emails from dealers I didn't buy from offering advertised prices of 14-15k of SLT Premium Plus packages. Much better advertised prices than they were showing in Jan/Feb.

These were Houston/Austin/San Antonio dealers.
