BorntoRage Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Anyone else have any issue with their paint being really prone to chipping? Thank you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Orlando8 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I have noticed the paint on my 2017 Midnight seems soft but man nothing like yours. Looks like your truck will be all white in a few years!
ChevyRoofer Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Anyone else have any issue with their paint being really prone to chipping? Thank you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk Completely normal nowadays. I just traded in a 2016 Midnight Edition, and I can tell you I had more rock chips all over, especially the front bumper. Traded in for a Deep Ocean Blue Metallic. Got the whole front end, full hood, and full fenders wrapped in XPEL now. Won't make that mistake again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
O_J_Simpson Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 You bought a Silverado. They all do that. GMC gets the better and stronger paint. Just ask any GMC salesman.
huntr1117 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 My 17 did the same thing. Dealer agreed to repaint it. Got it back and had the entire front covered with xpel. Looks great now. No more chipping. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
BorntoRage Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 These guys want me to pay half with no warranty. They also have no idea what Xpel is in these parts. Simoniz was all they offered. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
volcom8190 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 get someone to install a clear bra on the truck. my 14 looks like a mine field . Any newer vehicle is prone to this as the paints are more "environmentally friendly" and dont bond as well to the underlying structure
elementaltoad Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 I have a black 2017, mine is doing the same thing. It's babied and only has 2500 miles on it. I am seeing a lot of paint bubbles on the hood, fenders, and lower door skins. They crack and flake off, then the paint lifts in that area. A rock chip here and there would be understandable sure, but this truck is mostly driven around town between 45-55mph. It's a paint defect, not rock chips. Every time I find a little bubble or paint pimple pop up, it flakes off soon after. I'm going to take mine in and see if they will do anything - there is NO reason paint on a vehicle should be tore up before my first oil change.
Loco-diablo Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 I would/could expect some chipping on a non protected leading edges, but not on the tailgate and some of the other areas you pointed out. I had xpel ultimate applied on the nose of my 2017 midnight 2 days after taking delivery. So far it's holding up well. I do not have roof chipping or side panel chipping yet on my unprotected areas as you have. Has the truck been through a winter yet? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm sure the GMC salesman would say that although it's not necessarily true. My buddy's 4 month old $70k Denali HD Duramax is chipping on unprotected areas of the front end. As mentioned, the environmentally paint sucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SilveradoSaver Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 It's sad that nowadays with all the technological advancements made in vehicles, that the paint is worse than ever.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I don't know about the OP, but mine hasn't even been out of the factory long enough to have seen winter. Mine is 6 months old, built 3/17, and I've owned it for a month. It almost seems like the heat soak or heat cycling is causing some of the issues on the hood an upper fenders. Basically anything that gets hit by the sun, or cooked by the engine bay heat is bubbling and flaking. Must be contaminants or something under the paint. the little bubbles that pop on mine go right down to primer, the primer certainly bonds better than the paint on these things.
1997SierraSLT Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 It's sad that nowadays with all the technological advancements made in vehicles, that the paint is worse than ever. judging by this GM forum, i'd say these trucks as a whole are worse than ever.
2017SierraSLT Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 judging by this GM forum, i'd say these trucks as a whole are worse than ever. Not so. The amount of people complaining of paint chips and vibrations are small in the scheme of things. All vehicles have issues. These are a well built, well engineered, efficient trucks. They managed to improve the quality of the materials for the most part with these. I will say, my 2013 had very good paint. It was not prone to scratching or chipping. I have only had this one for 5 weeks and 700 miles. I have not noticed any chips on any part of this truck yet.
BorntoRage Posted September 29, 2017 Author Posted September 29, 2017 Vehicle bought new December of 2016 and went through a PA winter. No tailgating, but do use it for kids' sporting events and to haul my kit in the bed. Bottom line, at 16k, this vehicle looks much worse than any previous vehicle used in the same conditions (highway, secondary roads) than any of my other VWs, Audis, or Toyotas. My Tundra at 115k looked nothing like this POS. Hell, the '85 Westphalia I had looked better than this fragile 'truck.' Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
