Does anyone have the harness that I can purchase?  I have all the parts but I am having trouble with getting the wires into the connector.

I bought my wire harness from Pgamboa for 12$ the other day and I am waiting for it in the mail now!

Big thanks to Phil (pgamboa) as I purchased the splice-in pigtail version of his harness back in December.  Yesterday I finally received the 2018 module which had been on backorder and got everything installed last night in my 2016 Silverado.  Everything works as it should as phone position is no longer an issue as it had been previously with my Samsung and it charges my phone faster than the 2016-17 module did.  I highly recommend this upgrade and Phil to everyone with a 2016 or 2017 with the wireless charging option.

PM pgamboa here on the forum as he is Phil.  Order the module from the dealer or online from gmpartsdirect.com, nationalgmparts.com, etc.

For anyone that has a 2016/2017 Charging Module and wants to upgrade to the 2018 Module.

I finally have a Plug and Play harness for this upgrade! My harness is an in-line harness.

Simply unplug the harness from the old module. Plug my harness in between and into the 2018 Module!

Nice job on the harness Phil. I installed my module and did my own pins and connector. Good thing I had extra pins as it took a few to get the crimp right. Works great. Now to get andriod auto working right. I know you have to use  the USB which negates the charger but somehow my system worked once and now will not. My wife got her apple car play to work. I just dont get the icon on screen to allow the system to project the phones screen.

Just wanted to give another recommendation for Phil.  His wiring harness is top-notch—excellent quality and workmanship.  In addition, he’s a super nice guy and provides great customer service.  He went “above and beyond” when USPS messed up my first shipment. Highly recommended!

I thought it might be helpful for someone to outline the various alternatives I have seen for wireless charging if you have 2017 or 2016 truck and an iPhone 8 or X:

  • Remove the small magnet from existing charger.  The two YouTube videos are here:

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u29igTCTdLM&t=2s

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AZKlTDnqsU&t=2s

This approach worked for me,  but only if my phone was sitting on the charging mat when I started my truck.  If I removed the phone and placed it back on the mat, or placed it on the mat after starting the truck, it would not charge.

All of the remaining alternatives involve installing a 2018 charger (GM part number 13521066), although it appears the part is currently in short supply.  The three alternatives for installation are:

  • Modify existing connector.  The YouTube video is here:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2lOzwlnbg0&t=64s  I didn’t try this approach because I’m not very handy with a knife and didn't want to cut my finger off, but some have reported success.
  • Install a new connector by repining it yourself.  I tried this approach, but found that the pin work required was too detailed for me, especially when attempted within the confines of a truck.  I’ve successfully worked on similar molex connectors in pinball machines, but the wires to the wireless charger are 22 awg, which is very small—I found it difficult to repin them neatly, even with a decent crimping tool
  •  Install a “plug and play” connector from Phil (pgamboa).  This is my recommended option.  Phil does great work and provides fantastic customer service.  One end of his harness plugs directly into the existing connector and the other plugs into the new 2018 module—no splicing or soldering of wires required.  Ordering information is above.

I hope this post is helpful to someone.  I just wish GM had just implemented the latest Qi standard in the first place so we didn't have to go through all of this trouble!

Phil, I just sent you a PM.  I want to order your PnP harness.  I also ordered the module from gmpartsexperts.

Is it hard to remove the current module from under the console lid and replace it with the new one?

Novice here LOL

And another recommendation for Phil. I did the charging module upgrade on my 2017 Denali and now have Qi compatibility for my Iphone X. Took 10 minutes. No kidding. Super simple with a trim tool and the adapter harness.

    • I am having similar issues.. 08, 4.8L granted I did had a fender bender and minor damage up front passenger side but I don’t think it had anything to do with it.. I had the high and low pressure checked and my fan for my radiator keeps coming on.. replaced the pressure switch and don’t want to keep throwing parts at it. I did have some minor problems here and there like on long road trips sometimes the ac would get a little warm and then on the highway as soon as I give it a little gas or get a little heavier on the petal it started running cooler. Never had an issue with the ac besides the here and there.. but I also started having issues when I fuel up now it takes a bit to start ( super embarrassing) it runs fine and once started ( only happens after fueling up) starts fine any other time. Could they be related?
    • Spent a small fortune on fuel this weekend.   $6.69 diesel, 18 gallons of that. $6.99 92-octane ethanol free, 10 gallons of that for yard machines $5.59 87-octane for one of the cars, 11 gallons.   $250+ and I didn't even get a tug.   Hormuz ain't Hormuzin again, did not see that coming...LOL
    • Appreciate the advice. I've watched multiple videos. Most showing the most complex for those that have a center console, to one that showed maybe 2 pieces of trim being removed, like 6 screws, pulling back the screen and switch assembly, and installing the inline module. And this was a new/newer Silverado. That didn't look too bad. All the others show alot of trim pieces that need to be removed. I've broken those kind of tabs/clips on my C8 Corvette trying to get to the battery, and that was a lot less clips than what I think is involved here after watching multiple videos and looking at my dash today. I have one on the way. Called a reputable stereo place about installing it and got a "minimum" price of $175. Ouch! Looking forward to seeing what the instructions have to say.
    • Hard to say what the issue might be. Anything from the ability to cool the AC condenser up front, to blend door issues in the HVAC unit, to refrigerant charge, to compressor issues or issues in the lines.   Report back what the techs find on the 29th.   GM has service publications which list acceptable vent temperatures and AC pressures at given ambient temps and humidity. They probably won't touch the system if it's operating within those ranges.   I'm also surprised to hear your 2024 with the L8T is still using R134a? I was pretty sure the HD's had switched to the new refrigerant around 2020.
