sumitomo encounter ht, only $115 per tire

just had them put on. Wow, I finally don’t need auto4 in the wet.

just a cheap recommendation out there for people looking to replace their sra’s. All the reviews for it are great.

i believe the same tire is also available under the falken brand,  forget the model though

I guess it depends on where you live and what kind of seasons you have. I had 4 foot snow walls next to my driveway from New years to Valentine’s day last year. I prefer something rated for snow.

Well I’d probably buy an all season tire, a spare set of wheels and a dedicated winter tire then.

just my two cents but on all my trucks from 93 96 04 08 2015 years Ive always run BFG all terrain T/A's always rotated regularly and they lasted me 5 yrs plus yes they are a little spendy but they are quiet and have always got me everywhere. sand snow mud rain.

I'm very disappointed in the Michi Defenders.  I'll try the BFG ATs next.

Had our first snow storm this season recently.

had my new tires put on the day before thankfully

Drove about 100 miles in barely visible conditions and felt no need to use auto4, and I had 5 souls on-board. These cheap tires are great.

I usually recommend the Michelin Defender LTX MS for great all year round traction and smooth ride.  I've only had them for a little over a year but have been pleased.  I am assuming they will last like the previous versions of this tire that I've owned.  (LTX MS, LTX MS2).  I base my satisfaction only on my personal experience and research so it is great to hear from people with different experiences.  What problems are you having with your Defenders and what better tire have you owned?

I have the 20" Defenders on a 2014 SLT.  Love them.

I have the 18# Sumitomo Encouonter HT on a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  When i first drove the Jeep I thought the tires were almost identical to the Michelins in ride and quietness.  I haven't had them long enough to comment on longevity or traction, but thus far they are a great tire and an even better value.

Im guessing your jeep is awd, so probably more difficult to tell

My only comparison on thris truck is the sra’s, and they just blow them out of the water. Ride is a little smoother, and wet traction if measured with some sort of equipment I’d bet it actually has twice the traction. I don’t know if its because these tires are great or the sra’s are really just that horrible.

BFG All-Terrains T/A’s all the way.

I’ve never hand any issues with them. As soon as I’m ready for new tires, that’s what I’ll be getting.

I have had them on many of my past Jeeps and trucks and will absolutely swear by them for any driving condition.

Definitely pricey but well worth the money, I’ve gotten many many miles and lots of years out of every set of BFG All-Terrains I’ve had.

If you do go the BFG route go to Costco, I have a 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab with the 20” rims and put 275/55/20 on it but I have the RC 2” lift as well and they fit no problems I was going to put 285 and was told I can go as big as 32” but the price per tire was going to be 340 per tire. The difference between 285/275 is millimeters so at 240 a tire it was a no brainer and the truck looks great with the all terrain T/A’s. when all was said and done I was exactly 1200 out the door 300 less than discount tires or anyone else but do it when they are on rebate. They also give you a 30 day drive it or return it guarantee if you don’t like them

How exactly does a guarantee like this work?  Does the tire shop keep everyone's old tires for 30 days just in case the customer does not like the 'new' tires?

No, they just replace with something else (new) they have on hand...it isn't a money back, as in cash in hand. It's cash value for the tires you bought in trade for something else they have.

That’s it exactly! They will order what you want but won’t go bigger than 3 sizes I believe for liability issues I worked for them for 14 years sometimes they had good deals sometimes not. I’d get Them into price battles with discount tires too to price match.
