Stuck in underground parking

Recommended Posts

Just wondering....has anyone else here ever got stuck in underground parking?

We went out to Montreal this weekend (don’t waste your time going unless you have family or business there...it sucks) and I managed to get stuck in underground parking at the condo where we rented an air bnb. ‘Twas 3:30 in the morning and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Thank god for that, because no one saw me scratch the top of my temporary leer cap that’s being swapped out on a sprinkler pipe before ripping a flourescent light fixture off of the ceiling.

Took about half an hour, and deflating my tires, to get out of there without doing anymore damage. All it would’ve taken to prevent this is one of those hanging height restriction bars at the entrance.

So....am I the only dumb dumb that this has happened to? Lol

I learned this lesson many years ago with my '64 Econoline.  A couple of buddies bouncing on my back bumper while I backed out was my solution.  The good news is you'll probably never make this mistake again! (I haven't!)

Wedged my 2005 Silverado with Trac Rac in the entrance of the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi late one night. We made it through the clearance bars fine but when we started up the ramp to the second level there was sickening grinding sound...long wheelbase and the slope lowered the roof on us !!

Fortunately I was able to back up a bit and disassemble part of the rack with tools I had in the truck. Lots of unhappy folks behind me had to wait while I got clear.

I’ll definitely never make either mistake again. Staying away from Montreal AND underground parking that doesn’t have clear height restrictions posted lol.

I would’ve cleared the pipe if the ramps between levels weren’t nearly vertical. I’ve never seen ramps so steep in underground parking before. I was looking straight at the ceiling once I got the truck turned around and went up the ramps on the way out

I had to take air out of my tires and back up on an angle to clear the sprinkler pipe while my wife was making sure I wasn’t going to hit it again, which put my truck about 1/4” from the corner of the concrete wall.

Yeah, one of my good friends hurt himself one day so I drove his wife up to the hospital in one of my work Dmax's. Dropped her off at the hospital and went to park in the garage. Drove up to the second level and noticed the roof shrinking. I looked out over the roof and the back-rack was only about 1/2" from binding with the roof. Broke out my tape measure, checked it no way could I keep going to the exit. I had to back out of a busy city parking complex. I would get down to the 1st level and some **** would pull in and I would have to drive all the way back up to level 2 and pull in my space to let them by and try again. Took about 20 minutes to get an escape window. Never again. New large trucks, old small parking garages designed in the 90's for compacts.

Almost took the roof off of a rental suburban in NYC underground parking when looking for spots to park, there was an unusually low spot due to some construction work being done..

Anyways, saw it when it was like 6 inches away from the top of the windshield. Big ass extended suburban in a small underground parking garage wasn't fun.

We were going to eat one night down by the river in STL and I pulled my DMax into a parking garage and the attendant waived me forward and as I started up the incline it bent my antenna back to the top of my truck so we had to have everyone behind me back out and so we could get out of there. I hate parking garages and glad I only go to cities that have them a handful of times a year.

Yeah well here’s one. You guys remember that movie Black Rain, where the SUV was busting all the lights in the parking garage? I lifted my new land cruiser, added larger bigger KOs and even had a bike rack on top. One night and without thinking I met up with a girlfriend and drove through her apartment parking garage smashing every light above me and then I took out the security stick that lowered down to quickly. Yeah, that was a bad night for that parking garage lol. Later I added a safari rack up top and new piaa lights, never went through a parking garage again.
