Broken push rod equals new engine.

Started truck with remote, engine sounds like it has no oil, so I shut it off. Start again, sounds a little better, so I take off and it stars missing/running rough. A second later CEL is on and it is in limp mode. Have it on a flat bed to dealer next morning, they get to it a day later with a report that it has a broken push rod, nothing else. I question this, but they are good with their findings. Next day they call to let me know that Chevy wants them to check the engine further, where they find abnormal wear on the cylinder walls. Chevy wants the engine replaced and sent back to their R & D to figure out what happened. 23,100 miles and will be without the truck a month waiting for the new engine/install. Getting harder to own a Chevy or really any car these days. Thoughts on what could have gone wrong with the 6.2 in my truck?

Wow, out of a truck for a month!? 15 days into that you could file for lemon law in my state and be half way into a buyback.

Interesting.  This is the second time that I know of that GM replaced the entire engine and it being a 6.2.  My friends Denali had 30k on it when GM replaced it as well for a strange noise even though it still ran.  All under warranty.  Makes one wonder what is up with the 6.2 or are 5.3 owners not saying anything about theirs going bad?

Nothing is up... That is 2 rogue failures and not even of the same issue. Let's not make this sound like some wide spread 50% coverage of failures.

This is a replacement of a buyback.

That is some terrible luck. Not sure why your engine failed, that seems very strange to fail that soon.

I agree, I am very conscious when it come to maintenance and overall care of my trucks. It is very frustrating putting so much effort into taking care of a vehicle and then this happens without anyone knowing why.

What caused the failure? Well, there are a million things that could cause that. There could have been any number of factory defect parts. Maybe the oil filter was defective. Maybe someone dropped something into the engine during service. Sometimes 20 year old people drop dead from a heart attack, some brand new engine blow up. Some starters last 200k miles, while others last 2 years.

I'm sure there was a specific reason of failure, but you will certainly not find the answer in a forum however, it is an interesting topic to discuss. I am curious as to what the R&D department finds.

Will Chevy give you a loaner truck, or pay for a rental car?

Been in a Chevy Cruze for 2 weeks now, the car that fits you like a condom, free of charge. Hope to have my truck by the middle of next week? Just have not had time to go get a bigger loaner.

How does a condom fit?

Be very glad they are replacing your engine with a new one!  My family has tried very hard to get that accomplished on a 2002 and a 2009, to no avail; all they would do is tear the engines all apart (in a dirt floor shop no less), throw a few parts at it (why not replace ALL of that part while you are in there??), and hurriedly throw it back together, and we always wondered how many parts they had left over after assembly. . .

Snug, thanks on the insight on how my engine failed. I will be sure to give insightful advice when your truck fails you.

Nah, just about a stupid joke that brings nothing to the party.

There is no shortage of testosterone, sparring, or puffy chests on this site.
