I put RoadHawk HD cameras in all our vehicles, they have survived heat and cold and price is decent. You can put full size SD card run for months and just pull the card if you need video downloaded.

You can mount it to the windshield but I mounted mine to the panel behind the OnStar mirror and whittled the 2 covers to hug around the camera.

You can now buy some that come with the precut covers. Like for the Trax https://www.aliexpress.com/item/BigBigRoad-For-Chevrolet-TRAX-Cruze-with-Onstar-2014-2015-2016-2017-Buick-Encore-Car-Video-Recorder/32860028646.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dnSZIf8

I can view mine via WiFi right on my radio screen where you'd normally seen your back-up camera.

Does anyone know how long these cameras save data for? I'm looking for a model that is "always on" and if I leave my truck for 2-3 hours and something happened to it (broken into, hit, scratched, tires cut, etc.) I can replay video to find it.

Alternatively if any have a optional glass break sensor or the like. I don't think our trucks have glass break sensors from the factory, which is pretty sad. Mainly looking to protect the bed once I get a topper if possible.

Mine has motion and G-force sensors that turns on the camera if you so choose the option.

Is that only while in motion or does it also work from a non-running truck? Also, motion like a interior security system or those doors at CVS? Where it's infrared and if you cross the path it turns on?

Ï really  don't know all the nitty gritty.  But yes even if your vehicle is off the sensors are still on.  I have video of a deer at 2am to prove it.  Never had an impact to prove the G-force sensor though.

Oh interesting! Thanks for the info. I'll look into that, may work for what I need.

1. I cannot speak for all dash cams but most lock the video and they'll stay that way until you unlock it or format the card.

2. Rexing used to have a motion (as is in someone walking past the cam) and parking sensor.  Now it is a constant recording option but the video still locks if the dash cam sense a motion (as is in if the truck moves).

3. I don't think so but if they do, it mostly likely is a high end dash cam.

I have the VanTrue OnDash N2 Pro cam, its hard wired in and I put a 128 gb card in it. The instructions say the biggest you can go is 64 but with the 128 I get 3 full days of recording (with me driving, just parked in the driveway I imagine it would go the whole week.  It catches motion 24/7. It saves the recordings in 5 minute blocks. It has the rear view camera but, I have a headache rack with louvers so the view of what’s behind me is limited.  It doesn’t draw much juice as I’ve been out of town for 7-10 days and the trucks battery would be fine.

My biggest gripe is viewing the memory card.  A card reader doesn’t seem to handle 128 gb. The best way for me to view footage besides that tiny little screen on the unit is to bring the unit inside and connect it to my TV and then I can see it on a 65”  screen. :D    Yes, it records audio so it records cussing at various idiot drivers,  phone conversations etc etc.  Oh, the recording during phone conversations;  I had a client owe me money, he would never admit to it in emails or texting but,  I had it recorded via speaker phone conversations in the truck!   (I’m finally supposed to be getting that check this week  )

I got the dash cam because I had someone put their stick shift car in reverse and slam into me but it looked like I ran into him! How do you prove that without a camera???

I got the same dash cam, hardwired in as well, like the park feature. I bought the GPS mount for my wife's car for speed tracking... Lol
