John Deere purchase HELP!!

I just purchased a new home with about 1.5 acres and several large oak trees. I don’t currently own a mower and I need something now to manage the leaves. I use a JD Z series at work and love it. I have found a used 2015 Z930R for about $3,000 with 1625 hours on a Kawasaki motor. What’s everyone’s thoughts on buying a mower with so many hours? What’s the life expectancy of a commercial mower? Anyone running a commercial Z series with this many hours? I understand that I don’t need a commercial mower for 1.5 acres, but it’s what I’m used to at work, familiar with the operation, repairs, capabilities, etc. but the work mower only has 300 hours...

I’d say it all depends on how it was taken care of. A commercial mower is intended to be used 40 hrs a week or more for the better part of the year. (My buddy sells Xmark mowers). I’d say if it’s in good shape, try to beat them up a little on the price just for good measure. I know I’d rather spend $3K on a used commercial mower than $3K on a Home Depot or Lowes John Deere mower. Those are WAY less quality and won’t last. But this is just my opinion. Remember, you get what you pay for. I’d say go for it if it’s what you want.

Call a local repair shop and ask them if they can look it over for a half hour of labor

I don’t think that mower is overkill for 1.5 acres, it’l make the job so much faster.  I mow .5 acre grass with a 22” push mower and it takes quite a while to do and do well.  I think anything bigger you should stop wasting time and get a riding mower.

That sounds like a reasonable deal.  I have an ExMark Lazer Z HP that I purchased back in 2003.  Love it.  21hp Kawasaki engine on it with 651hrs.  We have just under 2 acres.  Takes me an hour to mow and trim with my Kawasaki string trimmer.  Zero turn mowers are awesome if you ask me. Commercial mowers are built really well.  I say go for it since you already know the ins and outs of a JD.
