Anybody find any other solutions to this problem? I have a '15 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT and mine started doing this a couple years ago when it was under warranty so I had the dealer take care of it. The service writer didn't know what the fix was when I picked it up after asking. Now the truck is not under warranty and it is doing it again. The strange part is that it only happens when I hit a bump and goes away right after. I checked all the grounds and they are tight and I also wired in the 2200 ohm resister but that didn't fix it.

I unplugged it before and it stopped. I was able to continue as normal. I am not to sure if it’s just the hood sensor or if the problem may go deeper, like to the BCM. Can anyone let me know if changing the sensor out would be the fix?

I have a 2014 high country well I unplugged the latch sensor because it was driving me insane ringing constantly I decided to finally buy a new sensor and it still didn’t fix it. My problem only happens now when I roll up my window or roll them down.

Thanks a ton to whoever figured out that the computer is looking for 2.1k ohms of resistance in order to enable the remote start. I bought a pack of 2.2k ohm resistors on Amazon for just over $5, soldered one in and it all works. Shocker!  Solder in the resistor to connect the black wire and brown/green wire coming into connector prior to the latch switch. I used a few layers of shrink tubing and electrical tape to protect it from the elements and then tie-wrapped it up to keep it from flopping around. Beats replacing the whole latch assembly or waiting for the dealership to fix the problem either under warranty or for a few hundred bucks. Easy fix, good luck.

On my 2015 2500 high country the stupid hood latch keeps going off I have replaced it twice now and still continues to go off and I really want to use my remote start but can’t because of that it sets off the theft alert when I try to use my remote start could there be something els causing it to go off than just the sensor I have also tried bypassing it that did not work it still went off what els could it be?

I hate to bring up an old post but my remote start started acting up, I got it to work again for a few weeks by messing with the plug then I ordered resistors, it finally started not working again so I wired it in and started the truck with the hood open.. no problem, so I put it all back together and call it a night, the next morning I hit the remote start, truck starts and then dies, put the key in and start it and get a SEL now with the code for the hood latch so I cleared it and when I got home I tried it again with another resistor just incase it was a bad resistor the first time and same thing I get a SEL light with the hood latch code.... so either my resistors are not 2.2k ohms or I just have bad luck, any ideas? I wired the red and black wires back to the switch and hit the switch with some CRC electronic cleaner and my remote start is working fine again for now. At this point a new hood latch assembly is only 50 bucks and not 150, but id rather do a quick solder job and spend 6 bucks. I guess maybe I should get a voltmeter and try it again but I assume the ohms are not close enough to the 2.2k if its not working

Before anyone puts in a resistor to replace the hood switch, look at this first, especially if you are having these symptoms below.   

 

Hood open warning when... rolling up windows, when the HVAC blower is on high, shifting in and out of park, hitting a bump.

If the warning only happens when it is cold, or mostly when it is cold outside.  If the truck is randomly alarming or the remote start isn't working or shuts off and truck alarms after it remote starts.  Or if when it has been remote stated and you unlock the the doors with the fob and the truck shuts off. 

 

If you have any of these symptoms it is most likely a loose ground!!  I have been dealing with these issues for almost 4 years now, but recently got to frequent to handle.   After taking it to the dealer with them saying the hood switch is good and they can't find the issue, I stumbled upon this thread and looked up the TSB that was posted by @gmgmgmgmgm.  I went outside and after a literal 2 min fix to tighten a nut on the ground all of my issues are gone!!! The truck even starts smoother now!!! 

 

I made some adjustments to ensure that the issues don't come back.   I removed the rubber jacket that was over the eyelet to ensure it was getting a complete ground (see attached picture) and took a wire brush to both eyelets and the ground lug.  I also added a lock washer so that it doesn't come loose again.

Hmm i might try this, its been working fine since my post but sometimes if i run into a store real quick and come back and start the truck with the key it starts really hard and slow like a dead battery but then the next time it fires right off....

I’m running into exact same issue. Replaced the sensor and still getting same issue. And only when cold like yourself. Any luck with yours?

hi is yellow wire to be grounded or just left unused

After having my alarm go off continuously with the hood ajar message I unplugged the hood latch sensor to fix the issue but in doing so I lost my factory remote start, not an big deal during the summer but now that its 20 degrees out its an issue. I dislike spending $100-$200 to replace a part that works fine because the $1 electrical switch integrated into it broke. The BCM seems to use logic on that pin other than high/low so the fix isn't as simple as twist the wires together. I ended up cutting the sensor/switch pigtail and wiring in a 10k ohm potentiometer and turning it till it worked. For my truck that was ~2100 ohms. The truck harness only utilizes two wires of the three pin connector and one of them is a ground. Solder in the 2100 ohm resistor in between the red and black wires as shown attached (don't forget to put the shrink tube on before) plug it in and the hood switch will be bypassed in the  "hood closed" position. keep in mind that you can now remote start with the hood open and peoples hands in there. Use at your own risk.

There is also a TSB (#PIT5576C) that may be related. It states that the ground on the back of the left cylinder head(drivers Side) that connects to the firewall may be loose or broken. This will also cause the "Hood Ajar" light. It is a braided strap type. The model we fixed was a 2018 Escalade. 

 

I know it's late the conversation, but I hope it helps others!

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
