Our pre-owned 2016 Tahoe has this exact same issue.  We bought ours in September 2020 and the roof has already shown this problem and we just figured out our hood has been repainted.  The roof looks awful.   Chevy needs to handle this issue as it is an apparent defect and not happening to just a few random vehicles.  It should not have to come out of our pockets.

I am in LA I bought my 2015 Tahoe on 12/30/20 and today I found this issue after going to the car wash. The hood and roof look like they have an acid damage and are very scratched and crackled.

The hood and roof look just like the photos in this post... car was perfect when I bought it 2 months ago..How did they cover it up so deceivingly well at the dealership? Does anyone have a solution? My email is [email protected]

I have a 2015 suburban that the paint was fading on the hood and the roof and had to pay out of pocket for the repairs. Chevy nor the Chevy dealership would acknowledge that it was bad paint. They wouldn't help cover the cost then saying there wasn't a recall on the paint, and now that is fading on other parts of the body they are saying it has too many miles (70k). I was told to go back to the Chevy house to set up a payment plan to help the financial burden.  I don't want a payment plan, I want Chevy to stand by it's brand. I guess more money out of pocket.

Got a 2016 Escalade. Same problem with hood and roof. And with lining of doors pealing. Contacted local Cadillac dealer in south Florida, and best they would offer me was some $1800 “deal” that was only good for 30 days. Looks horrible. Spoke to my detailer and he wasn’t suprised, said it is common with black GMs. Now I notice it often on the road with black GMs, I stop drivers sometimes to ask them if they know what caused it or what to do about it and they are always as clueless as we all are.

I have a 2016 Black Tahoe and have the exact same issue!  My hood and roof look like someone took a Brillo pad to it!  Went to dealership where I purchased the car today and the guy was a jerk!  Told me he would give me a 10% discount ($350-400) off painting the roof and hood!  I’m so disappointed this is happening to a 4 year old car!!  If anyone has any suggestions please email me at [email protected]

This happened well before the 4 yr mark on my truck, out of warranty to do anything about.  3500 - 4000 is a lot for the roof and hood, is this some wiz-bang type paint?  I had my hood and roof done for half that price at a reputable paint shop, and that was with a 25% increase in paint products.  Definitely inferior quality control in those areas of the truck, but unlikely GM will do anything about it.  If you plan on getting it painted, keep a receipt just in case.

The hood and roof of my 2016 dark metallic green suburban are badly faded (the body sides look brand new).  GM quoted me $3000 to paint hood and roof and they would cover $1000 of it.  Seems a bit outrageous that I should have to pay $2000 to fix their defective paint?

I'm looking to join one also for my 2016 suburban.

2016 Yukon XL black. Same problem as everyone else is describing. Hood and roof look terrible like the car is 20+ years old. I brought this up at the dealer and they didn’t care at all. This should definitely be a recall. Now I look at the hoods on every Yukon and suburban I see and most all of them are like that. It’s crazy they just don’t seem to care. I would definitely join a lawsuit

I have a 2017 GMC Yukon Denali in Iridium Metallic. The hood and roof look awful. Extremely faded and cloudy. It started around 3.5 years in IM STILL IN THE LEASE. I have ~37,500 miles. It is absurd the ~$80k vehicle has paint that looks worse than a $10k 20 year old car.

GMC said they can’t help because it’s out of warranty. I said it’s clearly a defect. This sucks!

I would partake in a class action.

GM needs to own this issue and make all of its customers whole!

I’m having the same paint issue on a 2015 Sable Brown Suburban.  GM should stand behind this, but it looks like they won’t.  Very interested in a class action suit.  I understand from one dealership that is is a common issue on all GM cars painted sable brown, not just the suburbans and trucks.
