I wanted to find out if any knowlegable guys on here can tell me if they have done this swap?  I can't find any type of numbers or specs on the 6.2 TB diamentions, and curious as to how many more mm larger a 6.2 is over the 5.3? do I have to machine any materials off the 5.3L manifold or is it a bolt on swap?

Thanks for the info if you can share..!

I’d call a few performance shops and ask them to compare, sure they’ll have full data sheet. Lots of performance TB’s out there that’ll give you comparable added performance.

Hey guys,

So you will need to swap the Intake Manifold as well. The L83 5.3L has a 80mm TB.

https://www.onallcylinders.com/2018/02/21/l83-l8b-5-3l-ecotec3-engine-specs-performance-bore-stroke-cylinder-heads-cam-specs-more/

The L86 has a 87mm TB

https://www.onallcylinders.com/2018/02/28/l86-6-2l-ecotec3-engine-specs-performance-bore-stroke-cylinder-heads-cam-specs-more/

If you want some stupid power get a Ported L86 intake manifold and then a Ported 95mm TB from Lenginfelter. It is a easy to do at home swap.

^ gives you numbers as well. 17rwhp for intake manifold etc.

If you wanted to do a budget swap you can do this as well.

Thank you for the info. I’m assuming you tuned the truck afterwards? What tuner/tunes did you use? Planning on doing this swap for 2018 Sierra. Currently has CAI, shorty headers, and 3rd cat, resonator and muffler delete.

Did you port your 6.2 intake manifold too?

THe l86 cam is very cheap and offers .053 more lift and a smiggin more duration vs the stock l83 cam, this alone might pull 10hp i would guess  they run $50-100

Time is money too and that's a lot and I mean a lot of work for 10hp.  If you going to do it your self just save up for a full cam kit and go ahead a delete those ticking time bombs they call DOD lifters.

Ask me how I know.

Can anyone point me in a direction to get an intake coupler to fit over the zr1 throttle body to an airaid intake ?

I’ve done the L86 intake manifold and throttle body swap and it’s a cheap and money well-spent mod with proper tuning. Very noticeable gains across the board. Most gains are down low where you need it the most. I’m moving up to the LT5 throttle body with a billet adaptor to see what gains can be had with that. 4x4 double cab, 3.42, full weight, longtubes, off-road y-pipe, 3” exhaust, 4” tube to stock air box with AEM dryflow filter, 160* t-stat, E85 conversion, ngk iridium spark plugs. 69b63e4855138370f6db8b9258922382.png

Yes i did. Under vacuum it would pull more HP. Since I’m forced via a Turbo it really doesn’t matter for me.

i found a guy on YT who installed the LT1 manifold, not sure if its an upgrade vs the 6.2 manifold. would be an interessting dyno test  , only issue is re-locating the serp bet about a pulley but he pulled it off.

Did you do the lt5 TB yet? I have a 5.3 w all the same mods just havent got around to the ported l86 manifold and ported lt5 tb yet thats the last things i want to do before a possible cam.

i think the ported lt5 tb on a stock motor is a waste of effort, thats only for S/C or built motors

stock 5.3 with 6.2 manifold and stock 6.2 tb is good enough, unless you plan on doing a set of l83 blended and ported heads, wont see any more gains
