That's because you were sitting in it. The vehicle knows this.

The vehicle knows the key fob is in it.  I dont have to be.

Yes, a manual override, or reprogramming, should be an option to the vehicle owner.  What would be the case for a K-9 Police vehicle?

Can you lock the truck with the secondary fob inside or do you leave it unlocked and rely on your dog as a deterrent to someone taking off in it?

I don't believe that it will lock with the fob inside if your not in it.

My 2017 GMC Yukon Denali will lock with the key fob inside.  I found out the hard way that the engine shuts off after a certain time.   I almost lost two dogs due to this “safety feature” We left the dogs in the running truck with ac on.  It was 92 degrees out, luckily went back to check on them and the truck had shut off.  We were very fortunate they were ok.

GM has a fix but it has to be government owned vehicle. So stupid. I’m a fireman, truck is used for official business, and I still can’t get it turned off. Nothing like shutting a road down, (emergency lights on) walking away from the truck, to almost get hit by cars who have gone around the “truck with no lights on parked in the middle of the road”. “It’s a safety feature” They said.

If you're using OnStar it will keep running. If you have the fob with you my 2020 Terrain will run 1 hour. If you put in in drive and return it to park in less than an hour it will reset the timer. If your fob is in the car you can lock from either the outside or inside with the other fob.

I was told it is due to people pulling into their garage and, with not having to remove a key, they forget and leave the vehicle running.  For me, that "benefit" does not outweigh the inconvenience to being able to leave my truck running when sitting in hot weather.  There should be an option.

This is 100% correct. You might want to ask a tuner if they can turn that feature off.

It's discussed in the "extended parking" section of owners manual as mentioned.  Just buckle your seat belt, or try using one of the seat belt alarm silencers.  They are literally just the male buckle portion of a seat belt and can be had for as little as $2.

I was able to get mine fixed at dealership.  2020 Sierra 2500 AT4. They had to flash the computer.

So I may have found a solution to this issues after going round and round with GM.  There is an after market part called a Pulsar LT that will disable the auto start and stop.  From what there tech told me the idle stop feature is tied into this.  So when that is disabled with the Pulsar it will disable the idle stop.  When I get the money for it, that's my next purchase.  Can't have my truck shutting down when I'm shutting down a highway with my emergency lights.  POC Firefighter / Paramedic.

Just finished installing the pulsar LT and it doesn't appear to work to shut off the idle feature.  Still going round and round with GM about getting this damn feature turned off.
