Control module just fell out from under my dashboard...

Had the truck in for routine service last week, I only drive it on the weekends for the most part so when I heard an new clanking sound tonight, I was surprised to see this box hovering around the brake pedal.

I did some searching via Google - some sort of control module, did some searching here and its apparently an HMI module that has to do with the radio? Backup camera? Aliens? Can anyone show me a photo of where it's actually supposed to be mounted? I sort of just wedged it in to a free space, rather not have it jam up the brake pedal while driving.

This module is an HMI Bypass module. It sits on top of the BCM

Yeah.. sadly I have 4 of these in a box of part from several dash take offs I’ve worked on. Lol.

From my observations, 2014-2016 trucks will not have it. From reviewing the the schematics, it appears that it is a bypass device that allows the truck to start in the event of a failed HMI. When I sent my HMI off to get programmed, my truck wouldn’t start. So I made a video on “How to start your truck without your HMI”. I learned on 2017 and later trucks that this module was present. I tested the theory by removing the HMI form those trucks and was able to start the truck without it.

Tore my hand up a bit trying to find the right place to 'stick it' and my back isn't in a good mood either, will try again soon. I'm still wondering how the heck it came loose!
