My 2018 Silverado was broken into earlier at the store, got it all on my dash cam video.

I can’t believe how fast they were able to break the lock! 3 seconds tops! From the first time they touched my truck to pulling off was about 13 seconds.

They were done before the alarm even went off. It was just doing that pre-alarm light beep BS while they grabbed a gun in my console and took off. The officer doing the report said a few other silverados were hit about the same time there (Bass Pro). So I can only assume the silverados are easiest to break the lock on the drivers door?

im very disappointed they could get in so fast through the locks.... mind blown!

in hindsight, I can see why they target that parking lot. Most trucks in Texas in a Bass Pro parking lot, most likely have a gun in the console.

Is there anything made to slide into the key cylinder that can be locked on its own?

I guess I’m not too far out of line by leaving mine unlocked... I had to quit carrying because of where I work, and I haven’t locked my truck since.

Unfortunately it is what it is.

If was a Dodge they could have drove off with the truck in about the same amount of time. I’m not knocking Dodge it’s just a fact. Pop the door cylinder, laptop with cord to the OBD2 port bust the  steering column and gone.

Got keyless entry? “They” have a “black box” that “they” can get the frequency when you hit the lock button on the remote. “They” also have “black boxes” that have a range extender that on the newer vehicles with push button start and hands free entry(or whatever it’s called where you just touch the handle and it unlocks) they can make your “fob” unlock your car sitting in your driveway while your fob is inside your house. In fact people have stated storing their fobs in metal boxes, microwave, or freezer. Sounds crazy but true.

Weld a steel plate over the lock cylinder “they” will just take out a window or slimjim it.

Nevermind the fact “they” can cut a key with your vin... I keep a black piece of construction paper over mine on the dash.

Odds are it’s a organized gang that had you and the others in the lot picked for whatever reason and your gun and the other guys are now on there way to Mexico. The fact all the trucks were GM was probably just a coincidence... All of the big three are just that easy probably the imports also?

The Police Crown Vics we’re getting hit nation wide for awhile as all “they” needed was a flathead screw driver to push the cylinder though the hole to gain access to the long riffles/shotguns stored unlock in the trunks. Somebody finally got smart and started selling a steel plate that bolted behind the cylinder to block “them” from pushing the cylinder into the trunk to gain access. I believe Ford started to do this from the factory near the end of the run of the Vics.

Locks keep honest people honest. If “they” want in “they” are going to get in.

Most cops will flat out tell you the best security system out there is a dog. Unfortunately that doesn’t work for vehicles...

It definitely is what it is.

I was pretty pissed at first, but nothing I can do about it now, so just gotta roll with it

and get it fixed. And hope they recover my gun one day.

Those piece of crap thieves know what they are doing.... but hopefully they hit the wrong car eventually and bubba sends them to their creator.

Im glad they didn’t steal the entire truck. But given where it was, they were just gun grabbing.

Im now going to be building a lock system that will secure the console with the trucks lock and unlock. So if I’m in it, it’s unlocked. When I’m not, it’s locked up.

Might end up being a metal box inside the console, I’ll see what I can come up

with.

You can't even have a firearm in your personal vehicle?

I never locked my jeep as I didn't want some fool thief to tear the top.  Well guess what?  They cut the top and didn't bother trying the doors!

I know a couple Jeep guys with fabric tops that never lock it either for that reason. Sucks they still tore it. But I suspect once they get a method down that’s fast they don’t care if it’s locked or not, just do their damage,  steal what they want and gone.

Pro tip- since our trucks have 1 key lock and it’s on the drivers door, if you can park your truck so the drivers door is NOT next to an empty parking space, that could really help you out.

Next to my drivers door was an open space that they backed into, back passenger opens his door halfway, blocking view from rest of parking lot, does his damage and gone. Broad daylight in a busy parking lot. I’m 95% sure if I had backed my truck in, so the drivers door was next to a boat that was on that side, they would have just drove past.

From the time they enter my camera to time they left was 59 seconds. most of that was them parking at the right angle.

At home, Ill be sure to always park with the drivers door facing my house instead of the street from now on as well.

Another thing to consider is where the stores parking lot cameras are and try parking in a direct path of them. Guy I knows truck got ran into in a Lowe’s parking lot hit and run the stores camera got it all didn’t get the plate but make model color of car that was later found with matching damage by the police. In your case the vehicle they used was probably stolen and I’d imagine the cops already pulled any video from the store.

I always like like to park away from others to avoid door dings but if I go to a big store that has doors on both ends I try to get a spot as close to the road in between both doors cause most people are trying to park as close as they can to one door or the other so my truck ends up out in the open next to the road hopefully in view of at least one camera. Now I’ll make sure to drivers door is facing the building.

remove the lock cylinder and rod, and use a handle cap from one of the other doors without the lock hole.  And then  hope your battery never dies lol

Same for where I work. You cannot have a weapon in your vehicle.
