What I found on my 2019, the problem is not the camera, it's the two incense plate lights that are shining below.

To prove my theory, I put a piece of duct over each of the leds for the license plate. Now at O dark thirty, when I leave for work, I can back out of the garage and still see my side mirrors, before it snags the door trim.

Seems possible but the whole screen brightness goes full up on mine when going into reverse, even before the image hits the screen.  What you are suggesting may help but I believe it is a software bug that makes the screen go into full brightness when reversing.

I had mine in last week because of the screen going blank, the dealer found it was down rev and updated it. He thought it may help the screen brightness. It did not. It may very well be a combination of various issues. The duct tape was just a quick, cheap way to see if I could change the problem.

Cheers

For anyone still struggling with this, I just got off the phone with GM’s infotainment helpline and, per the  supervisor I spoke with, confirmed Chevrolet has an open case on this and is attempting to develop a fix. More GMC owners need to go to their dealer to report this problem so it is made aware that it is brand wide not specific to Chevrolet and so the fix is made a priority.  I have almost backed into other cars and my house several times due to the screen brightness blinding my vision.

2019 Silverado here, and my first truck with a backup camera.  They need to just add a button to temporarily shut off the display when needed.  Trying to backup a trailer in the dark with no streetlights is darn near impossible because I cannot see the side mirrors with that bright display.  The camera is useless for backing a trailer so being able to shut off the display would make sense.

Same problem with my 2020 RST. Upgraded from a 2018 Redline which also had the problem. Considering trying the same fix I applied with the 2018 (post somewhere on here about disconnecting a wire from the radio stack). FWIW, my gf just got a 2020 Blazer, and it also has the issue. Seems like just a GM thing.

My truck is in the dealer right now for the 8 speed transmission fluid flush. I mentioned the brightness of the back-up camera to the service writer for the 3rd time. Fingers crossed and I will report back with any updates.

Good news! Got the truck back today and they were able to correct the issue. My service writer was able to research a fix and I'm happy to report the night time backup camera is no longer blindingly bright. As a side benefit the color contrast is much better as well.

Can you share what exactly they did to remedy the situation? Hopefully your repair order has some details. Thanks!

The Work Order receipt lists the operation as...

J# 6 02CVZ

CUSTOMER STATES WHEN IN REVERSE DISPLAY SCREEN DOES NOT DIM AND IS VERY BRIGHT

REFLASHED SOFTWARE 2886858 80YN48734810

Hope this helps you all get the issue corrected. I have a very long driveway and it was a PITA to back in or out at night before. Now it's a pleasure.

Just curious but did you ever get lines are static in your screen when hitting the brakes in reverse? If so, did the reflash help as well?

Never had lines or static in the reverse camera display at night, just what I would call "over-saturation". Way too bright, but now it's all cleared up.

    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page
    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
