ResistAll vs Zeibart vs Krown

Recommended Posts

My dealer is offering ResistAll undercoating/rustproofing and paint protection products on a new truck.

Anyone ever heard of ResistAll?

I also have Zeibart and Krown locally.

I live in Western NY Rust belt so want to make sure I pick the best one.

I've not heard of ResistAll.  I personally have used Ziebart rustproofing for a number of years, as have my brothers and father.  Always seems to have added a lot of life to our vehicles.  No Krown around me, though I've heard good things about them, though I have no personal experience with them.

Never heard of it. My issue with having the stealership do any thing like paint protection or undercoating is around here anyway it’s usually applied by the lowest paid employees in an entry level position where if the employee is worth a crap they are quickly promoted or move on...

Also you need to really read the fine print part of the contract to see what’s actually covered if you need to make a claim, what the follow up procedures are, and if there’s a “deductible” ie. they charge you 50 bucks to repair a paint chip. Also how long the warranty period is compared to the other options. As far as paint protection goes I thing your money would be better spent at a local detailing shop that offers paint correction and a ceramic coating if your planning on keeping your truck for the long haul. A good ceramic coating will last up to 5 years with minimal maintenance as opposed to reapplying something every 3 to 6 months. IMO if your going to trade it off in a couple years ceramic ain’t the way to go do to cost.

One thing I find funny is most dealerships offer undercoating even though if you read the owners manual it says that undercoating shouldn’t be applied to the underside of these trucks...

I’ve only heard good things about Krown. But it is an annual expense so something to keep in mind.  Canadians swear by it. If anybody would know what to use it would be them!

Zeibart seems like it’s a love it or hate it. Seems like they have a faithful following of people that have used it for years or the people who tried it once and swear it sucks.

ResistAll is being sold as a Zeibart like alternative black undercoating and spray inside doors application. It's a one time application with a 7 year warranty. Cost is about $450 from their list of $699.

The exterior and interior protection from the dealer with warranty against stains is about $299 and can be negotiated down to probably $200.

Zeibart undercoating phone quote was $699 and $800 to add diamond gloss and $1299 extra to do ceramic coating. Zeibart you have to go back every year.

Obviously the Zeibart price can be negotiated down but I am not 100% sold on their undercoating.

Krown is $149 per year and does not offer any paint protection services.

After watching some videos about Ziebart I think I'd avoid them.

I live in Minnesota and would rather roll the dice and just wash it frequently rather than get it "rustproofed" . That's just me though. How long are planning to keep it. If it's only 5-6 years I wouldnt waste my money.

My last truck I daily drove was a 2011 Silverado with 215,000 miles that I bought new and just traded in 3 months ago had zero rust .

I'm sure other guys will to rustproof it though.

Is it just me or does it seem that trucks that get drove more seem to rust less at least around here in the Midrust? My 01 3/4 only has 125k on it and my rockers are almost non existent, corners are half gone, and frame looks like the pieces of the titanic on display in Vegas. Yet I see same/similar  year trucks for sale around here from here with 300k+ that look like there 5 years old rust wise. I don’t get it...

I’ve used Krown since new and my wife’s odyssey is Krowned. One of the guys I know treats his work trucks with krown and swears by it. You can download a ten dollar coupon to make it $139...not much but st least something.

Well I more than likely will keep this truck 3 years. I get bored after that long. $449 for ResistAll through dealer and it will be done when I pick up truck vs. 3 years of Krown for $449. If the dealer coating doesn't look like it's holding up after a year I can always have it krowned in the future.

Make sure to know exactly what the product is they're spraying, because some products can counteract the factory wax coating and remove it. Someone posted a few months back using fluid film on their frame and it completely removed the entire wax coating.

I find it hard to believe any coating will last as long as the dealer is claiming. And if you go for warranty on it what they consider rust vs what you do will probably be two different things.

I did Ziebart with mine a couple months after I bought it.  No regrets yet, 4 years later.  My frame is always black so that's nice, I don't have to get under there and touch up rust ever.  I go back once per year for a touch up at no charge, as long as the frame is clean which it is for me since I love detailing.

Yes, I read mixed reviews on Ziebart.  I decided to roll the dice to see what happens.  To me, the true test will be around 8 - 10 years since the originally coat date.
