Update:

Truck is at the dealer now. They are redoing the under coating due to the frame already having rust. They are looking into the popping noise. GM said the truck needed 1500 miles on it before they would investigate. Currently I am at 2400. The service manager admitted that the noise is not normal and they "should" be able to figure it out. He said he hasn't heard the noise on any other newer Silverados. My service loaner is dead quite on start up and doesn't make any noise remotely close to my truck.

Yep, 2019 Denali 5.3 same thing. Went away after a few minutes. Pulled out the oil, and put a nice K&N Gold series filter with 0-20 Mobil 1 extended life, and have not heard a thing. My buddy said they use cheap oil and filers that hurt oil flow to the upper end.

If you watch the video the noise is lower in the motor. Ive never had an issue with dexos oil in any of my GM trucks.

Dealer called and said they believe they found 2 AC lines that were rubbing together as the engine warmed up. They said they moved them apart and now the noise is gone. Its hard to believe this was the issue but clearly its an odd one because no one else seems to have the noise. I should have the truck back tomorrow

Ive noticed this on mine as well after idle on cold starts, all I can gather so far is it’s apparently the Direct Injection high pressure fuel pump. Sometimes another higher pitched clicking sound I’ve noticed is the fuel injectors pulsing from the high fuel pressure.

I got the truck back Friday and its been quiet. The claim that 2 AC lines were rubbing and that's what was causing the popping noise. Kind of far fetched to me but the noise is gone.

Are you still hearing the sound? Mine is doing it intermittently. Also since the sound started the idle is not silky smooth as it used to be. It feels like it’s misfiring during idle, however no drivability issues. I’ve pulled Mode 6 data from the ECM on dozen occasions and shows anywhere from 1-4 misfires on multiple cylinders per driving cycle but not always the same ones. No pending codes or CEL. Listening to your video sounds the same to me as mine.

Mine still does it but is intermittent too. This truck idles like my 16. It's usually smooth but sometimes you can feel a slight shake. My 16 felt the same way. My engine isn't dfm. Its afm like the generation before. I'm still not convinced it's a lifter issue. If you read the other post I made more recently it shows that gm knows the issue but theirs no fix available.

I had a ‘17 with 5.3 and that always made a slight tick, so when I got the ‘19 I was surprised how quiet it was in comparison. I guess we’ll see what comes of the PIP5606C when GM comes out with a fix. Thanks for the info.

My 16 5.3 clicked and ticked like a mofo but ran like a champ. I associated it with the DI and high pressure fuel system. The 19 with DFM is quiet. I was surprised as well.

does yours tick like mine? It doesn't happen right when I start it. It starts when the rpms drop to normal idle after a cold start. You have to watch the whole video. The ticking almost sounds like a slapping noise

I called GM last week and spoke to my resolution rep. They now want the truck at the dealer for further diag( I don't think the dealer spent much time on it the first 3 times I brought it in.) I know its a pain in the ass to diag because the truck has to be stone cold when you start it to make the noise. If there is any sort of warmth still in the engine it wont make the noise. When I left the dealer last time they weren't convinced its a lifer noise. They thinks its something external to the engine. Last thing I want them to do it open up the engine and replace the lifters and then the truck ends up with the same noise.

The dealer is kind of jerking me around right now. It looks like it will be a few weeks before they have a truck loaner available. I race motocross so I need to have a truck if they plan on keeping mine for a while.

I just hope they don't declare the noise to be normal because it truly makes the truck should like a shit box. The 3 loaners I've had don't make any hint of the noise.

My 2 cents.

I know your'e still under warranty.

I would get a mechanics stethoscope, $4 at Harbor Freight.

Use it to locate the noise.

Dealers, GM are built to deflect problems.

I'm a DIY guy so this just makes sense to me.

We tried that to be honest. A good friend of mine builds LS motors for all sorts of applications. I had him listen and take a look. Its hard because the noise resonates all over the engine. It seems like Its coming from the manifold area.

I'm also not sure but it seems like the truck has developed some sort of exhaust leak too. When getting on the highway the engine seems to hiss a bit like an exhaust leak. If you stab the throttle a bit at idle its sounds like a leaky manifold too. This truck sucks haha
