Help? - RST Z71 upgrade to Bilstein /Ko2’s ??

I went to the 2019 RST from a 2006 Titan with the same size lift and tires...   only considerable difference is that the Titan had 17" wheels and the RST has 20" wheels.    The 12 years I had it lifted... the rear of that Titan had never once chattered on a turn or dirt road.  First week I had the RST... I zoomed around a real tight turn at the speed I always have in the Titan... and the back skipped a little.    Week later my GPS put me onto a dirt road for 2 miles as a short cut I guess... back skipped considerably... odd but also fun :)

Thinking it over... I realized that the 20" wheels offer less cushion than the 17" wheels.   Also noticed that the new tires were at 40 pounds... where I ran 32 pounds on the 17" wheels.

Letting air out of the tires as a test made a huge difference on the RST... but I opted to put the air back in and just be aware of the situation as i drive.

I agree with the other posters... stiffer shocks are gonna make it worse.

Shocks can help, but the spring rate of the rear suspension play a big role too. These trucks (with a 7000+ lb GVWR) have fairly stiff springs so that they ride level when the rear suspension is carrying significant weight. That limits how much suspension travel you get when the rear tires hit a bump. Other brands of trucks sacrifice in these aspects in order to give a softer ride or offer less hop from the rear suspension. Ram offers a coil spring suspension with a softer ride and less hop from the rear, but the payload capacity usually takes a huge hit and it tends to sag significantly without air ride. Ford offers similar payload capacity and slightly less hop from the rear (unless it has the FX4 or HD payload package, then they're usually just as bad), but when you compare one of these trucks to an F-150 with a similar GVWR, the F-150 will typically have an additional inch of suspension sag with a lot of weight over the rear axle. Some are okay with that, but I hate when the truck is so nose high and I'm blinding traffic because my low beams are pointing where the high beams usually would.

You can see how soft suspension tuning affects how the truck behaves when loaded:

In all seriousness, 400lbs in the bed.

I've driven a few of these empty however.  Western NY so bumps/potholes a plenty.  Can't say I've had any go sideways over bumps/rear end jumping around.

Does anyone think this could be caused by the weight reduction strategies thathave pretty much taken all of the weight off of the rear? These tailgates weigh nothing and the beds are light materials, no more heavy steel sitting over the rear leafs.

Funny thing driving on the same road I’ve driven for years, my AT4 is more predictable than my RAM limited I had with air suspension as far at rear movement on uneven roads and a few good quick dips in the road around corners and such.

I can tell you this as a 2019 Silverado RST Z71 owner.. the rear end sure jumps around an awful lot. I kind of miss my old F-150, at least all four sides were equal. The problem with the RST is that the front end handles so well and stays planted which can place me at a awkward angle when the jumping around ends. Nearly hit a guy walking on the curb when I ran over a rough dirt patch in the middle of the road. Didn't matter if I was going straight. Reducing the psi worked.. now I'm at 35 all around. That has helped a bit, but it still jumps around a lot more than I'd like. Not happy about this at all. Some have said it is because the shocks are twin tubes and the two tubes inside seem to not agree with each other at times.

The jumping around could be due to the factory "Rancho" shock.

They are like pogo sticks as discussed in many other threads on the K2 side.

Yes, reducing tire pressure may help but not solve the issue 100%

The Eibach Pro is a very similar design and function to the Bilstein 5100 and looks like the rears are out. Fronts out soon...

I'm aware of that but it seems the steps I've taken are working for now.. but if it does that again, then I am definitely looking into the shocks. The caked dirt is gone from that road so I can't duplicate that. It hasn't done that since I reduced the psi.
