Noise When Backing

My truck in the mornings when I start to back out sounds like loose lug nuts in cap. But all are tight and on the studs. It does not do this after backing just a short ways. Any ideas?6d3d905a65979cb211d326b1c549787d.jpg

Possible you are hearing the ABS self test.

 

I used to hear it all the time on some of previous GM vehicle, not so much or at all with my 2016. Though I haven't been listening for it.

I get the same noise when turning to back into somewhere. I took my truck in and told them about this during an oil change. I even checked it before I pulled into the service department that morning. Well they changed the oil and rotated the tires then came and got me so I could test drive with their mechanic. It did not make the noise one single time. The advisor said it would be documented and I took off. I still hear it from time to time though.

Eh? These trucks have had sealed bearings for like 20 years.

I think he means the little metal cap that GM puts over the CV nut on the front wheels. That shouldn't be loose since they are super tight from the factory with how they fit in there.

 

I would play with the parking brake maybe and see if it helps any. Does it do it regardless if it was cold or warm out? How about if it is humid or it just rained the night before? Maybe you have a little surface rust on the rotor but it is making noise when you first start to move. There should be no way your brake dust shields are rusting and making it come into contact with the rotors at your age so I would rule that one out.

 

Something I would check is that all of your brake bolts are nice and tight and that the pads are able to move freely. I would also suggest trying to gently ride your brakes when you back up instead of letting go of the brake. See if it makes any difference when the brakes are applied a little or not.

Yes,  I mentioned it because it happened to a friend of mine. Couldn't figure out want the noise was turned out it was that cap.

I see you aren't in a northern salt state, but check your parking brake shoes.  We get tons of issues up here in NY with them, mostly on trucks where folks don't ever use the parking brake.

Weather has not been a factor that I know of as do not hear unless widows down. Only does after sitting all night never after driving and parking 4 or 5 hrs.

Just curious, (as I'm one that never used the parking brake in any of my automatic vehicles) what issue should I be concerned with by never using it?
Our is it a case of you useing it after not using it for a long time, and hanging up?

Cables will rust/stick in place, same with the brake mechanism inside the rear hub.  I also don't use the parking brake much, but I do periodically use it to stop the truck near my house, just to make sure they still work ok.

Parking brake isn't meant to physically slow the truck down. It is used for parking just like the name implies. Ever park on a hill and when you shift back to D you get the loud slam and its hard to move the shifter? That's cause you are resting on the parking pawl in the transmission because you didn't use the parking brake correctly. Proper use is get the truck where you want it, shift to N, apply parking brake and let off the foot brake. The parking brake will take the weight of the truck off the transmission, then shift to P. Anyways, good idea to use it on inclines whether they are large or small and it will insure that everything keeps moving.

I've had the same issue since almost new 9 months ago. It's a binding like sound when in reverse only. Kind of a popping noise. Does it most of the time but not all the time. Just shrugged my shoulders at it.

That is it and only in morning. Can only hear if windows are down.

      Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart?

      Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.

      Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue.

      I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !

      Just wanted to get a idea of how many of you still have problems with your radio cutting out during the first few minutes of driving, my 2024 GMC Sierra still does this after a little over 2 years of complaining to my dealer about it, and OTA updates no longer complete, the check for updates in settings is greyed out for the second time while trying to install a update, my dealer took about a week to play around with it the first time this happened, and somehow got the check for updates to work, even though it would always show system is up to date when I knew it wasn't, now again 1 month later its greyed out again when the OTA update N25-F163BU tried to install, which ironically is the update to help with reliability of future updates.
