No power to trailer lights

Ok I hooked up a trailer to my 1 month old 2019 Chevy Silverado today for the first time and had no trailer lights. Hooked up my second trailer and also had no trailer lights. Connected both trailers to my father-in-laws truck and both worked fine. Checked both sockets the flat 4-pin and round 7-pin and had no power at either one. Anyone else had this problem?

The bulletin for the trailer module reprogram is N192213550. Have the dealer try that.

Jeff please try this,  connect truck with lights on (parks) and let hooked up for five minutes.....it seems like it takes a  minute for the truck to recognize trailer.....mine was the same way and now

Nope.  Take a look behind the plug and see if the harness is disconnected.

ok I would get a test light 12v and verify at your truck plug what you do have. Check the turn signal left and right and running light.  Definitely check as BSHORT said the harness. If the fuses are good then you should have power back there, check the ground that could keep it all from working to. Since it so new you could take it back to dealer also

Looks like the harness is connected to the sockets and have already tested for voltage with a multimeter nothing on running lights, either blinker or brake lights. Got an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. Probably something simple but got me stumped at the moment.

There is a bulletin out about trailer light control module. Big thread about this under other heading. Guys originally thought it was related to cold weather. It shows up also as trailer disconnected message. Problem has to do with lights drawing too little or too much amperage. Took me a long time to get mine sorted out but the reprogram should help.

Took it to dealer and they had to order a “module” for it. We will see next week if that fixes the problem. Never thought there would be such trouble to just hook up a trailer and plug your lights in. It’s really no all that complicated until technology gets involved lol.

Mine has been in the shop for 2 weeks with the same problem. They have changed two different modules and still can’t figure it out.

Any luck on yours yet? Called again today and still no part has came in for it. Truck is 3 months old and still unable to pull a trailer. Getting to be a little ridiculous

my 2019 LTZ also didnt power lights at first.  Even though the trailer brakes worked. Later it said that the trailer was disconnected.  I changed the profile on the 'car hauler' and

removed backup lights.  I dis and reconnected the 7-pin connector then 'added' a trailer.  The truck prompted me to test the trailer lights and it looped through testing left, stop, 

right lights and sure enough the side markers were on as well.  Havent tried it again but will.   dont recall now if I set it to tow/haul mode.  Neighbor said his 2011 ran used to report 'disconnect' and 'connect'  while driving 

all the time.

I have the same problem with my 2019 gmc slt all trailer lights work except running lights. I tried trailer with daughters ford they worked fine. no power at running light pin. went to dealer they said trailer is not compatible with truck said it was a pulse width modulated system in truck and I needed a 55ma draw from trailer lights to make it work and need a load resister on lights. I think load resister is needed if you have led lights since they don't draw enough. bought a curt plug # 57003 adapter which has resisters built in, it didn't work tried truck on friends trailer,  running lights worked fine,  had truck tested at trailer place he said it was fine. Tried connecting an old headlight to running light pins and it light it up. also have a trouble call on truck trailer screen. here is the strange part when trailer is connected and I turn lights off then on running lights go on for I sec then off, every time I turn off then on same isec blink of lights. Wondering if I have too many lights on that line and the heavy draw kicks lights off since they are not led.

Maybe your ground isn't hooked up on the trailer.  These trucks have a hard time getting power back to the trailer through the hitch.   Mine would reset and show connected/not connected.  Took the ground wire on the trailer and made it grounded to the harness, so it completes the path not through the hitch.  Worked for mine anyway. Has anyone with these problems tried the trailer light module reprogram I mentioned earlier. It helped my truck a lot. I believe that it widens the acceptable amp draw of the trailer lights substantially. My running lights were drawing too much so it would shut down so I swapped all trailer lights to led. Then my brake a d signal lights were not drawing enough so it shut down so I added the resistors. Now after reprogram and new lights everything works as it should. Also eliminated the trailer disconnected message that used to show up frequently. A combination of new lights with the proper amperage draw plus the refresh has almost completely eliminated these problems.

      What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.

      People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.

      Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
