I just saw your post.  I have the same problem. I am trying to contact bilstein Warranty over it. The bounce is horrible.

Have had the same set up for about a week now, only I'm on stock height.  Definitely something wrong, mine soaks up the bumps like you say but rides as good or better than stock normal driving.  Wondering if something didn't get installed correctly?  I know that's not much help, just helping verify that's not how they should act.  Other guys can probably shed some light but I thought I read the rears can mistakenly be put on upside down? Per Bilsteins FAQ

Sorry you guys are having problems. I’ve had my 6112s/5160s on for nearly a year and am still happy. I rarely deflate my tires when not towing because I’m fine with the ride. Hope you can figure out the problem.

Did you keep your stock upper control arms?  Also, for the rear instead of a 3/4" block spacer I was considering an add a leaf which should give me about the same lift.  Do you think the block spacer is good enough?

I did keep the stock control arms. I know there's some debate about it but I think it will be fine. Now that I'm towing a tongue heavy travel trailer again, I wouldn't mind a little more rear height.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread. For those that had issues, did you ever figure it out?

I am currently moving from 5100s to the 6112s. I will be putting them on the first notch since I already have 2.5 blocks for front.

 

Interested in hearing responses.

Same question as Charles, did you guys figure out what the problem was with your 6112s rough ride / bouncing?

 

Can't decide between these and Eibach coilovers.

Installing
Bilstein 5100 leveling
shocks 2015 GMC Sierra

Remove the old strut

Safety First Use
Jackstands

Lift both sides of the front
end at least 2 inches you
need it that high to put
the tires back on after the
lift

Remove the 3 nuts on top
of the strut and the 2 at
the bottom Do not
remove the center nut on
top

 

Use 4 spring compressors evenly spaced
around the spring and tighten each of them
a little at a time all the way around until the
spring is loose. Use an impact wrench or
this will take an hour.

 

Disassemble the old strut tower
Remove the single nut on top of the strut
you need an adjustable wrench to hold the
flat part while you loosen the nut with a box
end wrench the top comes off note the
position of the notch and spring and also that
the bolt heads fit into holes at the top

Reassemble and re
seat spring

I don’t have a picture of it
but install the new nut
on the center shaft of the
shock use the adjustable
to hold it from turning.

Once you have the center
nut secure then loosen
the spring compressors a
little at a time until they
can be removed.
Now put the shock in the spring and
install the foam piece and metal cap and
the top cone be sure to align the ends of
the spring with the flange and top cone
nests.

Pry the sway bar down to fit the lower
mount.
Insert a pipe or bar ( 4ft) in the pivot point
above the sway bar and push down this will
lower the arm so that the shock will go over the
mounting holes
It’s a little tricky to do by yourself because
while you are pushing on the bar you might
have to push up or pry the bottom of the
shock up and over the mount. I had to use a
small bottle jack on one side but the other
side just popped up over it when I pushed
the bar down. Use a tapered punch to align
the holes and then insert bolts and use the
new nuts provided.

Double check everything and get an
alignment

Make sure everything is
torqued to spec and
then put the wheel
back on.

At the top setting you
get 2” of lift.

An alignment is
necessary to reset the
camber

I have this with pictures on a PDF file if anyone needs it

I just ordered a pair of 6112's for a 23 Silverado 4wd. I hope to god I don't have any issues.  These shocks are very hard to find but the price point is very good.

    • I thought I was building a HD 3500 srw, maybe I was lost.
    • No doubt, I definitely agree with you. However, considering the 6.2 and 3.0 have been catastrophically failing with very little miles, I figured I would put trouble free. I’m at 18,4xx and still not a single issue.  
    • It’s never dry here but it gets hot. My 4 vehicles I keep at home drive an 18 mile loop. One 6 days a week. Two about 3 days each and one once a month. Only one goes on trips about 4 times a year 1000 to 2000 miles each time. One 26 years old gets driven once a month for 22 years. One 14 years old goes 6 days a week. The other two are recent at 2 and 4 years. All are performing normal no extra service other than that would be half of recommended or severe service in the maintenance manual. No extra water or steam out the exhaust or premature plug wear. I would consider an 18 mile loop would be enough. So apparently once a month at 18 miles for 22 years has kept the collector car running well. About 45 minutes a month. 
    • It is working as designed.  NHT and non NHT trucks have the same exact transmission cooling setup.  NHT just gets a larger radiator.     The transmission cooler loop on these is as follows.     -Transmission out goes into an oil to water heat exchanger (item #1 in the first illustration below).  This exchanger has engine coolant opposite the transmission fluid and uses engine coolant to warm and then regulate the transmission fluid temperature when its in the operating window.   - From the cooler it goes to a thermal bypass valve (item #11 in the 2nd illustration below).  If the ATF has not reached the temp to open the bypass (194F), it loops back.   - When it reaches 194F, the thermostat opens and ATF then flows out to the oil to air auxiliary cooler (item #17 in the 2nd illustration) at the front of the truck.  From there it goes back to the transmission.     Your only fix would be to swap for the PPE thermal bypass delete block which will open the loop to the aux cooler all the time.  It will STILL run warm, probably 170-200F, but that's as low as you'll get it as its still flowing through the oil to water exchanger.      
    • Most say the oil temperature needs to above the boiling point of water to rid it of moisture and long enough to dry it. Many think that is about a hour at 212 F or more. Those people have never line dried cloths in a Midwest winter. Leave a pan of water sitting on the counter and eventually it all evaporates. So heat drives the time it takes. Water in oil under 175 F, the Nitration initiation temperature, is a minimum then for temperature and samples I've done that use Karl Fisher method say about a hour (in a healthy well tuned motor) over 175 F will dry it to under 800 ppm. Low enough to not be much of a factor. Motors with weak rings will take longer and the colder the air temperature the longer it takes.   On a cold motor there is also the condensation temperature. Blowby gases that contain moisture are subject to that cold cylinder wall, like sweat on a glass of ice tea. But also subject to the Law of Partial Pressures. Wear studies by GM and the DOD  indicate wear is a real issue below 85 F and a concern to 140 F but doesn't become a minimal factor until about 160 F. You know this intuitively when you see water vapor exit the exhaust pipe until the system gets above the dew point. It isn't magic, it's physics and it fascinates me. I know you didn't ask but....I over share sometimes. 😉    You keep the Camaro's high and tight.
