2019 loaner, from a 2018 owner

I really like the way the 19s look on the outside.  I had some regret on my 18 before driving this one.  The elevation I'm driving is a dark red and I honestly feel like it's the best-looking truck I've ever seen. It's just beautiful.

The 19 5.3 is definitely faster than the 18 5.3. Perhaps if I had a 5.3 8 speed it would be comparable, not sure.

I like my 2018 cloth seats. Maybe those who are complaining have leather seats? Or just a preference thing. The 2019 feel like they have no padding.

One thing I forgot to mention and it sounds trivial, but it isn't to me. My 2018 has an excellent feeling column shifter. It's not leather wrapped like the Denalis, but it's just really meaty feels like quality.  The 2019 feels cheap in my hand.  The Ford column shifters also feel like garbage, but most of them are floor shifters and the k2xx shifters are really good.

In 4 or 5 years when I need a new truck I'll look at the 2022 or 2023s, to see if GM fixes their issues. They are no longer getting automatic sales for me though.

One thing to remember is the 2019 is 450lbs lighter than the 2018my. So that would effect the ride some I would think and performance.

The 2019 T1 GMC is a beauty pageant winner compared to this!  IMHO    I do see a resemblance after-all !

I've been very partial to GM trucks for a long time, but I have to say if I needed a new truck today, my first stop would be a Ram dealer. I don't think the 2019 GM trucks are objectively bad trucks, but Ram and Ford just have better products in many ways. The GMT900s were a HUGE step up and so were the K2s. The T1s are a half-step up from the K2s.

I wouldn't drive a T1 if they gave it to me; the entire thing looks out of proportion.  Tall, stubby, bull-dog face, and bull-dogs are fugly creatures.  A cannot imagine the new AFM that disables 6-7 cylinders is going to be remotely reliable for as long as I keep a vehicle (I'm still daily driving my '84 GMC and '86 Olds), not to mention sounding like a Briggs & Stratton one-lunger (or LS-BS as I like to refer to it as) with an exhaust on the road.  I'm not particularly sold on the K2's looks either, but like a boxy truck (like my '84 Square).  The Ram's looks have had me since '94... I even traded my '17 DC Z71 for a '14 Ram CC Laramie (and still traded up).

FYI, there are '19 T1s AND K2s... so if you want the last of a dying breed, buy a '19 K2 at probably a considerable discount.  When I stopped in to my dealer for some warranty work on my truck, they had a half dozen '19 K2s on the lot.

The difference in power felt between a 2019 T1 and a K2 is likely the standardization of the 8 speed transmission. The engine specs (assuming 5.3 for both) are still the same.

Given all the problems the 8 speeds have had, I'm glad I have a 6.

It's also due to the T1s being lighter (I'd say that's the bigger change) and now they have a "sport" mode that lets them have slightly better shift patterns over the normal lazy ones.

I like the looks of the new truck- in certain trim levels. The interior seems extremely similar to me and if you compare like models aka LTZ to LTZ things seem reasonable IMO.

Where they screwed the pooch is price and ride. For the little cost increase ton GM they could have put Bilstein on ever one of these trucks RST and above. I feel that would have solved many people’s complaints. But instead they put a kids trampoline shock on and want everyone to drop 50k.

I also think its crazy that the custom trim level doesn’t get radio control on the steering wheel. That should be standard.

Here is my biggest issue with GM take my truck I got a 2018 crew LTZ redline edition. The redline package was like 2600 maybe. You would think they would personalize it more. Anyone can slap a redline package on. How about stitch the seats red. Hell even black out the steering wheel bow tie. I will give dodge that much they can personalize a vehicle to its package. My opinion put a little more effort and it will go a long way it’s not rocket science here.

Unfortunately you voted with your wallet on that Redline package so if enough people do it they will keep selling g overpriced sticker packages.

I'm going to have to disagree. The LTZ interior is not up to snuff.  The interior in my rental 19 is fine for a work truck but it's not even as nice as my mid level LT 2018 interior.  There is no excuse for that.  Then it gets really ugly in LTZ because the trucks are more expensive and it's the same interior.  Go to a High Country and they spray paint some trim bronze for that extra luxury experience.

Are you ****ing kidding me?  The 19 interior is fine for work trucks.  They need a lux interior that's optional on LT/SLE trucks and standard on SLT/LTZ trucks on up. Like the gmt900s.

You bought the wrong package. You'd have gotten the most bang for your buck with the Texas Edition.

They do nothing unique but slap on some fancy door badges.

As to some of the acceleration "complaints" with the 19's, I just wanted to point out that this might be due to an effective gear ratio change.

For comparison's sake, lets talk about a 2018 5.3 with 8 speed trans and a 2019 5.3 with 8 speed tans.

The 2018 has 3.42 gears and the 2019 has 3.23.  This represents about a 3% change in gear ratio.

In addition to this, if they both have the 20" wheel option, the 2018 will be a 275/55/20 while the 2019 will be a larger 275/60/20.  This is about an effective 3.5% change in gear ratio.

When you combine these two factors, you end up with a 6.5% change in gear ratio.  This is getting pretty close to the difference between 3.08 and 3.42 gears and I'm sure we'd all agree that the 3.08's are only good for mileage unloaded.  So, with the same horsepower under the hood and this large of a ratio change, it shouldn't be surprising that one of them feels like it has more pep in it's step.....
