I've gotten more tickets with a radar detector (4) than without (0). They're bad juju.

Best and cheapest radar detectors I have is to the left and to the right of my nose.

And then there's the thing between my ears.

No speeding ticket in 20+ years.

I have Uniden R3 and it saved me plenty of times. Long range radar is great. I can hear it go off on the interstate with no cops anywhere, i take the bend or the hill and BAM, they are right there.

One thing that is nice is the tone of the alerts, there are few and none are obnoxious. I can actually listen to the tone and not get triggered lol.

It has a nice mute button on the adapter so no need to react on the dash, had mute memory and you can set a speed where nothing will go off under for ex 25mph. (the LED on the adapter will still flash if there is a trigger but no sound)

I got it for cheap on Rakuten but im sure you can find it in other places. R3 or R7 will be good investment.

False sense of security, thinking you wont be caught so you tend to speed more.

For me, i have one for when im not actively looking around for a cop or when one comes behind me that i didnt see.

I dont speed but i also dont drive 55 on 55. Im usually a 5-10 MPH over limit driver which is still a ticketable zone.

I’ve ran an escort redline original for about 8 years or so, combined with escort live app and waze its great. I live in curvy hilly terrain in WV, the off axis on it has saved me well over what I originally spent on my daily commutes alone.

I looked for off axis detection (able to detect in other directions other than the direction it’s pointing) as it is needed here on all the curvy/hilly roads. Also needed it to be undetectable. I live in WV, but travel through Virginia a lot, they are illegal to use in VA. Can’t conceal without hardwiring really, and once hardwired you don’t want to have to take it down constantly. a cigarette lighter cord hanging from your window isn’t very conspicuous lol. There are many techniques you can use to conceal without hardwiring though. They even make the garmin like gps units that double as a detector.

My Valentine just saved me 3-4 times driving from Seattle to Spokane. Traps were everywhere. Laser is tougher, but still gave me warnings that I was being targeted so I didnt pass or speed up. Lucky that traffic was limiting us to 10mph over in that case.

Off to the side or middle etc.
to get the best signal strength .

Left to right position isn't as critical, but the higher, the better.

I second this. The higher the better, especially if it has rear detection like the 9500ix.

By the way I'm going to assume you have the auto-dim mirror if you did the mirror tap, correct? I don't have the auto-dim mirror so I hard wired mine to the fuse box. Wish I didn't have to but I could not figure out if the non-auto-dim mirrors could be mirror tapped. And where did you get that blend mount? I'm considering one of those if it works for the regular mirrors too... I am just using a supercup right now.
